Worth doing HID's in non-projector vw Rabbit headlights?

I just picked up an 08 VW Rabbit. I want to do an HID kit soon, but my low beams are not projectors.. they are just regular headlights, reflectors i guess. Is it even worth doing an HID kit with regular headlights? I do not feel like retrofitting projectors in them or buying new headlights. Too much $.

I dont think its worth getting a nice HID kit, if the light is just gonna be scattered everywhere b/c of not having projectors. Prob just a cheap kit?

These are my headlights:

I did HIDs in my factory lights, no projectors. Totally worth it IMO, it's soooo much brighter.

www.ddmtuning.com, I got mine for 46 shipped.

personally i wouldn't do it b/c of the scattered light patterns (blinding the ones coming at you) and the light wasn't ment to have hids unlike the gti's. but if you do do it, i would go with a lower heat bulb. like a 4500k bulb. i've herd of bad stories about cars catching on fire. but then there are the kits that work fine. i would just make sure that the kit is reputable and ppl have used them before with no problem on a rabbit. but good luck.

Yea, a lot of people on VWVortex were talking about those. Said they look great... and there $46 bucks! ahah. I just worry about electrical problems with such cheap kits. But if this many ppl have used them.. guess there ok.

My factory low beam housing is smaller than yours, and I have no problems with heat, just go for the 35W kit, not the 55W. I also use 6000K with no problems, been about 4 months now, and not a single problem.

I have used multiple DDM kits...35w and 55w. The DDM brand carry a lifetime warranty on the ballasts. All the kits I have used have worked great. I had one ballast go on one of my kits and it was replaced under warranty without any problems.

With that being said, DO NOT install HID's in a non projector halogen lamp. Not only does it look ricey, cheap, and just plain ****ty, the scattered light is obnoxious to other drivers. If you're going to **** with your lighting, do it properly. If you're not willing to spend the money to do it properly, just don't ****ing do it.

VDubs have really bad glare issues with HIDs in stock housing, thats why I didn't put them in mine.

Yea, I was pretty bummed that they didn't work well enough to use and I didn't want to shell out for projector housing. Was fine on my Prelude and 300 in stock housing though.

I have had my DDM 55w with harness for 2 years without any problems.( 4500k) Including a 3000k 35w fog lights without any issues. People b!tch about bad light pattern and blinding because they are idiots. Reason being they don't align the headlight down to the ground and leave them at the stock position.

Ive done it in stock housings, as long as there glass lenses youll be ok. The thing you gotta worry about, is hazing/melting plastic lenses.

I have HIDs without projectors in my Saturn and haven't had any problems with them. As said earlier, they need to be pointed correctly.

I wouldn't do it. I hate being blinded by other drivers with HID kits. Also one of the most important rules of modifying your car is you get what you pay for. High quality Halogen bulbs cost more than some of those "quality" HID kits. Also, just because the light is more colorful doesn't actually mean it's brighter. Infact it's almost always the opposite. Save your money man. Do it right or don't do it at all.
