How do I compress music in iTunes?

I'm hoping there's a way to compress my music files in iTunes so I can free up space on my phone. Anyone know how to do this? Will it decrease the quality of the music? I have an 8GB iPhone only because I needed a phone quick and that's all they had so I gotta work with it for 2 years. I have like 600+ songs with some apps but not a lot. I have around 500 pictures even after deleting 200. Need some help. Haven't found anything useful on the Internet

You cant compress those files... Id get rid of the songs you dont listen to, get a larger memory phone, or buy an ipod with more room. Or get rid of even more photos. But as far as I know you can not compress.

Digital media already get's rid of the richness of music, further compressing it would make it even worse. Definitely look into either a bigger iPhone or go through you music and get rid of stuff you don't listen too as much.

^ yep. iTunes files are compressed.
They're in that format to make file sharing impossible without a third party program like Access For IPod.
I don't even know if that program is even around anymore.
Best bet is to make a few playlists and delete the stuff you don't listen to regularly.
