Picture this..

Been pulling my hair out for two nights straight. Seeing what others ''think''.

I recently had someone stop by my garage a few nites ago for a new turbo for their 2g dsm. Their stock turbo was blown. Being new to dsm's, I let them stay up the garage for the install, And to chat with everyone who stops by every nite, Being there are tons of turbo cars' there every nite.

I sell him:

-Basically new, Ported and clipped Forced-performance turbo:

http://www.maperformance.com/forced-...turbo-dsm.html

I had the turbo ported, Polished And clipped.

I GIVE him (new) FREE and INSTALLED for free:

-3" SS o2 housing
-2g install kit (ss lines, fittings , 2" j-pipe ETC, ETC)
-2g hard pipes
-HKS 3" exhaust
-2g hard intake pipe
-2g maf adapter
-new cone filter
-door panel
-2gB gsx spoiler
-2gB gsx side skirts *used
-2g spark plug cover
-2g hatch shocks *used

I thought I would ''donate'' all these ''starter parts'' for him, And help him with some stuff he needed that were stock replacements, And I did not even get a THANK YOU. I was trying my hardest to get him to enjoy the time at the garage, And to get a good feel with dsm's, and how they work, And help him save money rather then buy all the parts I have half dozen+ each, Of , That I would normally just sell like any normal person would do.

He contacts me the next night saying he believes I installed the turbo wrong (I've been working on these cars for almost 11 years straight). He then explains that it takes longer to ''go'', And that it is nothing like his stock 'blown' turbo. He thinks I sold him a junk turbo and cannot understand why anyone would upgrade to a bigger turbo , if it's ''slower'' and takes a longer timeto ''go''.

I explain lag, And try to explain EVERY analogy I can possibly think of. By this time, I'm blue in the face because I spent literally, 4 hours in one nite trying to get him to ''get it'', But he just did not get it. Today, He calls me again saying he don't know about the entire bigger turbo thing, And why anyone would ever install one, And that the turbo is broke because it has lag (He uses the word "go in time").

I explained he should install all the supporting mods, And I can give him them very very cheap to help out, But he thinks I'm lieing to him. He comes to my garage last nite very rude, And makes it look like I was holding his stock parts to keep,That I removed during the install. That included (1 rubber lower ic pipe, A stock air-box, And a blown (oil everywhere) stock t25 turbo.

If that doesn't sound WORSE enough. He Takes his STOCK blown t25 turbo, And tells me his father wants it, Because he found a ''website'' that is going to REBUILD it For 975 + core.......... I almost fainted when he corrected me after I asked "Oh , $9.75?", And he replied with " nine hundred, And seventy five dollars plus core". I tried telling him they are both crazy, But he did not agree.

What do you even do in this situation? I tried to explain to him that I can instantly take the parts back and sell them to anyone instantly, For much MUCH more, But he just keeps talking like I'm the bad guy out of all this..

Oh, The FINAL price after EVERYTHING I sold him above, INCLUDING labor? $300.

Had I known all of this, I would have left him keep the measly $300, And never tried to help.

I told him I can sell him an MBC, a 255lph fuel pump, a fmic kit, and a set of injectors and maft translator, For $200. He just does not think these parts will do anything, And he believes that I'm just trying to take his money. I explained to him how much these parts are actually worth, He does not know anything about cars period, And does not believe me. I did not mention exhaust above, Because I GAVE him a FREE HKS exhaust for his car!!!!!!!!!

What would YOU do in this situation? I'm sure this doesn't even make any sense to most. I'm completly at the end of my rope with trying to explain how things work, And I DO NOT know what else I can even possibly say to get him to realize I'm NOT making it up about lag. I gave him a TON of websites to look at, But he just does not want to look

PS: This IS NOT a joke. I'm completly disgusted about all of this, And feel like I gave him SO MUCH, And nothing is pleasing him.

Turbo lag ftl.

But I guess to someone who has no idea and is just used to boost the lag may feel like something is wrong depending on how much bigger you went.

He fails though.

let him pay $975 for the t25 rebuild.

wouldn't bother with people like that if it was me, tell him you no longer want his business and be done with it.

I agree.

He will eventually learn about cars and when he does, he will realize how good of a deal he just screwed himself out of.

I feel like i need to buy a dsm from you now.

But really ignorance is bliss,Suggest that after he gets it rebuilt youll put it in and take back all your parts and put his stock back in for labor time.

either cut your loses and let him go on his way, or do as others suggested here and put his car back to the way he wants it free of charge, and give the parts you gave him for free to someone that deserves them.

unfortunately no matter who you are or what you do, the customer IS always right lol. as ****ed up as it may be.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Makes me realize I'm not so crazy for thinking the way I have recently been thinking about it all. I guess I kept throwing parts at him to make him satisfied, But nothing is working.

wolfsgang: It's a 98' GSX. I sold it to him in perfect running/driving condition (Other then blowing smoke from a bad turbo seal). The car doesn't make any interior rattles or anything. He has a mint running car now with some respectable upgrades, For under $1900.... INCLUDING the price of the car. I am going to take the advice of everyone else and offer to take everything back and sell it to someone who will appreciate it all, Or just tell him I no longer would like his business, Even if that means i'll be losing money (Losing more money with him giving me business, Sadly).

I drove the car with the new turbo, It runs GREAT. There is not ONE problem with the car right now. He has never driven in a turbo car (Never knew they made a turbo eclipse, Let alone an AWD one), So I'm guessing he just got useto the stock t25 spool up for the week or so he has owned it. The new turbo isn't even much lag if you are comparing it to that of a ''big'' turbo like a 35r, 37r, 42r, ETC ETC ETC.

Ahmen.

If the mental retardation was passed on from father to son, then it seems that no amount of logical reasoning will be able to rectify your situation. Just tell them that when the turbo gets in, you will remove your parts, and install his "rebuilt" turbo free of charge.

I agree, I just thought I would keep trying to make him satisfied, But it seems as though he's not going to be satisfied unless he gets a stock tiny turbo back on the car where it spools at 2800rpms, instead of 3500rpms.

I have already told him that I can instantly re-sell the turbo and everything on his car, Once he decides what he wants to do. I have been helping him with all the small stuff he wants to know, or needs, For free. This is where I made a mistake, Aswell (My fault). It's very hard to help for free when I'm extremly backed up with a dozen cars, And tons of other stuff going on. I set a time and day for the free help, But it's not good enough or soon enough.

I've never actually experienced someone like this so I'm assuming that is why I'm just in complete shock. Tried to explain what the turbo is capable of with the correct mods, In the 1/4, But he does not know what a 1/4 is, or any times or what they mean.

Thank you for the advice, And for not ''flaming''. I know sometimes the site could be rough with attacks on idiotic threads like this, But I just figured maybe others would have an opinion on what they would do in a situation like this.

learning about this in class right now as I see it you did what you could to try and make him happy above what you should have, but him being a half if not a full re-tart has nothing to do with your service. you own a shop going to have to get that you going to have customers that will not ever understand how simple things work on a car.

I'd take my **** back and tell him to go french kiss the front of a speeding Septa Bus...

Any logical and normal person would have at least said thank you for doing what you did... I know I would have kissed the ground you waked on if you hooked me up with all that stuff for next to nothing...
