TPS and S-AFC Problem

ok, so i have been watching my SAFC for a few days, dunno why. just was interested in watching it, and monitering my ****. I came across a weird problem. I noticed that my Throttle % , at the highest peak (you can push the up arrow and it shows you max throttle, rpm etc. from when u last started the car) was only at 62.5%. well i thought thats weird. So then i turned my car off, reset the safc, so it could take a new reading, and i went through 1,2,3 hitting a high of 6789 rpms. The throttle % only hit 59.2. What does this mean? is this correct or should i be hitting 100%. Also when i tap my foot on and off the gas pedal there is about 2 in. of play in the pedal before u need to force it in, like i can tap it and it just goes in and out, like its broken.

Just curious.. dont know much about my safc. Also what does kar, and hgz (i think thats it) mean. i think the hgz or whatever it is, is the manifold pressure if im not mistaken. someone help a dsm'er out lol.

i dunno man, the previous owner installed it. im having idle surge problems too. jumping from 700-900, sometimes 700-1200, ideling sometimes at 1200 steady, sometimes at 600-700, sometimes it jumps all the way from 600-1200. but what i dont understand is the throttle % , the highest i hit was 62 i think.

your tps sensor could be bad. or needs to be adjusted.

I would see whats going on with the 2 inches of play and the throttle. Something might be bent, broken or out of adjustment somewhere not letting you get to full throttle. The idle adjustment screws fall out of those cars for some reason, so make sure that is still there, that could give you the hunting idle.

yea i believe its a BISS screw, but i think they might only be on 2g's. il check it out when i get to school tomarrow. im kinda thinking something is loose in the pedal area, thats causes the lack of throttle, and the idle has to do with the coolant temp sensor, or the tps

Try to re-set up the afc.

TPS% should read 10-100%. Adjust the throttle cable at the intake manifold so when your pressing the gas pedal inside the car all the way to the floor the throttle plate opens up all the way. This should have been done after your headgasket was put on at IMPO.

If the SAFC is still not reading 100% then loosen the 8mm screws on the TPS sensor and adjust it.

After you do this you should be able to pick up at least 100whp, lol.

Btw, idle surge was brought up already... http://www.tristatetuners.com/forum/...ead.php?t=9249

what do you mean 100whp. im taking that as sarcasm?

anyway, how would i adjust the tps?

Now the CEL only comes on when i start moving, but at idle (1100 rpms) it goes off.

I was using a Snap-on red block scanner today at school. I hooked everything up, the Mitsu 3500 55 cable and the hyun- 2 cable. But for some reason the scanner would not stay on. when u push the power button, and let it go, it shuts off, but a kid after me used it on his civic and its obd II and it worked fine on his. Am i missing something here? i replaced the battery in it, the 9v and i also hooked up the chrys. connector with the power cord to the battery, and it still kept shutting off.

Why would the CEL start coming on now? Did you mess with the SAFC at all?

I was sort of joking about 100whp, but truthfully when you adjust everything correctly and so that your car is actually able to run at WOT/100% throttle, you will definitely notice a big difference.

I thought you had the car tuned by Sav DeLeone or something at IMPO. Seems he missed a couple things.

AFTER you adjust the cable loosen the 8mm screws on the TPS and rotate. With the car not running but with the key in the ON position, watch the SAFC and adjust the TPS till it reads 100% with the pedal to the floor.

Once you adjust this CORRECTLY readjust the tune on your SAFC so you aren't leaning out.

If IMPO tuned your car before then more than likely things are going to be way off. Take it to a KNOWN good DSM tuner before you start boosting again.

With the key in the on position and the motor not running so when you floor the gas pedal you aren't redlining the motor. Still, the ecu will be on and you can see what it sees using the SAFC.

ok i did what you said, and with me forcing the pedal all the way down, it hit 71.6 and then my friend under the hood (while i held the pedal to the metal lol) push the throttle cable bracket more and the safc went up to a 100% ... but when he let go it went back to 71.6 . could i maybe just need a new throttle cable?
