M3 e36 engine noise

"Its hard to pinpoint it in the video. The audio is crappy (droid2) and my clutch is chattering under it. *edit* actually the main noise you hear is what im talking about. its not as loud in person.

But my motor has always made a weird noise. Not a lifter tick (i hear them faintly ticking if I listen carefully) But when im driving it reminds me of leaves rustling in the wind. Also at certain RPMS (i wanna say maybe 3k) when i give it full throttle theres a whistle that goes away at higher RPMS. I thought it was my cracked intake boot but we patched it up and i still hear it.

I don't think its the vanos because from youtube videos i've seen, bad vanos sounds different. And I dont think this noise is coming from the front of the motor.

Nobody I talk to in person seems to know.


Someone just mentioned that he thinks it sounds like a leak. Maybe air leak?
My motor doesn't leak any oil, Makes the correct power that it should. It burns oil the same rate as other s52s.

are you talking about what sounds like an air leak? that whisppping sound? Could be a vacuum leak, or maybe the intake manifold gasket. I'm not too knowledgeable about those motors, so I'm just taking shots in the dark.
