SCCA RallyCross Returns to the Philly Region! October 3, 2010

The Philadelphia Region SCCA is putting on our first RallyCross since 2008 at the Grandview Speedway in Bechtelsville, PA (between Pottstown and Allentown) on Sunday, October 3, 2010. The event will be held inside the track, on the 1/3 mile dirt oval and the infield, using cones to create a challenging course and utilizing the dirt infield as well as the hard packed clay banked track.

Come RallyCross where the NASCAR Modifieds and Late Models roar!

Registration onsite will be open until 10:30 with the first car off at 11:00. We expect to be done by 5:00. Registration online will be at motorsportsreg.com: http://www.motorsportreg.com/index.c...8D976253041C32

We plan on at least 6 runs and will try to set a 1 minute course. The event will be scored in rally format with all run times and cone penalties counting for the final score. This will be a run/work event. Every competitor must work the event.

All SCCA National RallyCross classes will be included. The entry fee will be $50. New this year - all participants must be SCCA members. Fortunately SCCA has a weekend membership available for those of you that are non-members for $15. This fee is deducted from the cost of yearly membership, if you decide to go that route after the event.

Specific info here: http://www.phillyscca.com/courserally/index.html

This event is open to most cars in good, safe running condition. A few points:

-Extreme performance/summer tires are not permitted. All-seasons are okay, and of course so are snow tires and rally tires. No studs.

-Make sure your car isn't leaking any fluids and that the battery is well secured.

-Convertibles or T-tops must have hardtops installed.

-Pickups, jeeps and similar high-CG vehicles are discouraged.

-AWD may be awesome, but is not required. We've had Integras, Caprices, Mustangs, Corollas, GTIs, etc show up. And they're not slow .

-Classes: Stock, Modified and Prepared, Front, Rear and All wheel drive, linked like so: Stock FWD (SF), Stock RWD(SR), Stock AWD(SA), PF/PR/PA, M2/M4. See Official Rallycross rules for details. Basically there's something for everyone.

why would you hold a local rallycross the SAME DAY as the RallyAmerica RallyX series at New Jersey Motorsports Park?

Unfortunately, that's the only date we could get that worked with Grandview and the rest of the Philly region schedule.

Seems to me the solution is this: go watch the RallyAmerica event on Saturday and then race yourself on Sunday! A few folks I know are planning to do that. (There's also another NJMP RallyAmerica event in November.)

This is what IS allowed while remaining stock:

-any air filter, but in stock airbox
-skidplates, mud flaps allowed
-DOT tires only. Snow tires ok. Rally tires bump you up a class.
-roll cage, driver restraints
-abs/esc/etc can be disabled but not removed
-any extra lights
-any brake pads
-any clutch and pressure plate, provided nothing else had to be modified for it to work
-any catback exhaust
-wheels must be same size and within 1/4" offset as OEM
-stock springs, any dampers, but no adjustability unless OEM was. (That's a notable difference from Solo/Autocross Stock class, and bumps my measly golf up to PF.)
-Any front sway bar, or removal of it
-spare, jack, tools, etc can be removed

That's it. Anything else moves you up to P or M. But really, there's not aa huge a difference in performance between classes as there is in Solo. The lack of grip makes driving skill play into it even more, IMO.

Last minute bump. If anyone has any questions, contact me by email.

(Not checking TST while it is infected. Virus scans and system restores are not my idea of fun.)
