Army

I have four more months until I am 17 and am i thinking about joining the army or navy. Only thing is that I am still in school and I heard you dont get paid when your 17.

I was wondering can I still go to school and do this at the same time?

if thats what you want to do, give it a lot of thought imo.. At least finish high school first.

go talk to a recruiter soon and get into basic next summer. you will get paid obviously while you are there. and see about going split ops. you go to basic your summer going into senior year. after basic you go home and finish school. when finished you will attend your AIT (advanced individual training) which is where you learn whatever MOS/job you pick when you join.

going split ops and doing it at your age is honestly the smartest thing you could do. while you finish your senior year of high school it DOES count on your contract you sign with the army.

if you do decide to enlist, be sure to come in as the highest rank you can. which will be an E-3, PFC/private first class. dont let a recruiter bull**** you around with stuff either.

dude, really think about it. If you got the path for college, go for that.

I was in the Navy for 8 years. If you do join the navy, or any military service at that, make sure it has a field outside of the military, say if you decide not to try to go the full 20 years for retirment.

Like me, i went in as a Fire Control man. I worked on the electronics of weapon systems and certian radar systems. So, when i got out, i had a good knowledge of electronics and radar theory.

Just don't let the recruiter dick you around. If you have an idea of what you want to learn and do in the military, try to get that job, and not what the recruiter thinks you should go into.

Don't get talked into split ops. It sucks. You get in great shape at basic, come home and get fat, then go back to hell again.

If you enlist and do a delayed entry, you will get paid for your drill weekends.

Def talk to a receuiter and join an Army forum. Tons of great info out there.

I did Army.

Already talked to my parents about going to a recruiter and talk about it. only thing is that I will be doing my basic training going into 11th . Then would have to go back to school . Would I be able to go to Split ops the next summer going into 12th?

Try an attend some sort of ROTC program so you can go in with elevated rank. If at all, ROTC in college so you can go in as an officer.

lol, ok. thats more of the person you are then just the general idea of split ops. its very easy to go to a gym, or just do push ups, sit ups, and run at your house. which is all that is needed in the army.

to be honest im not sure about that. every split ops person i have met they did it their senior summer, went back to school and went to ait the following summer. then either went home to Ft. Couch and became a weekend soldier or moved on to their permanent duty station.

Do you want to retire from the service (20 years), or do 4-6 years and learn something? In my field 98 percent are from the service, most come from the Navy. They have good radar and electronics programs that can land you good work afterwards. We also have a good deal of marines and a few army guys. The Navy guys seem to have had better technical training (electronics and radar).

My friend at work is a retired Marine captain.... makes 100K with us, plus 4000 a month from his retirement with full benefits, but it wasn't easy.
