Iphone 4 screen broke...need help :(

heres my issue..maybe some of u guys here on tst know how to help me out or at least point me in the right direction..

Last monday i bought an iphone 4. i love it.. definatley an awesome phone. i ordered the case through apple and it is supposed to be here in 3-4 weeks. well last night i come home, plug it in to its charger, and set it on my night stand like usual... someone calls me in the morning, phone is on vibrate and falls off the nightstand, onto the floor i quick grab it, look at the front screen... and its totally destroyed . im not talking like chipped or cracked... but it looks like someone shot a car windshield with an ak47. the thing fell MAYBE 2 feet onto the floor. so my question is, after searching on the web, i noticed that apple has been having problems with there glass screens breaking, and that some apple stores were replacing them for free, so i called my apple store, (45 min away in king of prussia) and the lady tells me that the phone can be replaced at 199.99 and that its not covered under any warranty because it was "missused" are you f;ing serious??? misused?? all i did was plug it in and it fell off under its own vibration!? sorry for the long rant, just dont know wtf im gonna do.. anyone have any suggestions??

Call a few stores, try to find one that will be more cooperative. Even if you have to take a drive it'd be worth it. Good luck!

Agree w/ troll. I'm on my second iPhone and never had a screen problem. I do see cracked screens alot but it's from carelessness (no offense). Nothing wrong with the phone itself.

yea i totally understand the carelessness part, but all i did was plug it in and let it sit where every other phone ive ever owned was sitting. james ls you have been pm'd

anyone here work for apple?? or an att store that could get me info on my optinos?? im going to be calling the apple 1-800 number for there support network tomorrow, just to see what they can do for me, im praying that since there such a big company there customer service will pull through for me.. idk. my luck i guess

Buy the apple care plan. Wait a few weeks then tell them your story. Might not work but I'd give it a shot. Bothering AT&T probably will work too.

yea i was thinking about the care plan, i wonder how much it would cost to get that? ill look it up. nice thing is that the phone still works perfectly, just the screen is destroyed. so i could wait a few weeks to figure it out, its just depressing looking at it lol.

the phones come with a care plan. when you buy the plan, its just a year of extension on what they give you for the first year. you might be able to look into the insurance plan from att. i have no clue how that works though.

you may try going back to the store, explaining the situation again then following that with "if you don't make this right i'll never buy an apple product agian, and i'll be sure your district manager knows this as well." the truth is, they can give you whatever they want within reason, as long as you word your request right.

ain't no thing my man. after four years in retail i know how to play the system pretty well.

keep up posted, i'm curious to know what happens. i'm about to wage battle with apple as well.

Madgrip, even saying to apple that you wont ever buy their product again will just get laughs. I have over 15 years in retail and always got a chuckle when someone said threats like that. You not buying their $200 product isn't going to sink their multi BILLION dollar business ;)


93eg- have you checked into getting repair kits like they have for the 3g??

area1320, i used to work with the DM of one of apple's NY districts. i'm very familiar with her stance on customer service, and apple's stance on customer service. i'm not sure what your history is in retail, besides the shop. i can tell you that in corporate retail a threat like that will be (or should be) considered, at least.

the reason i suggested it is because i've read tons of people getting their phones replaced after cracking their screens. certainly, nothing to count on, but it's couldn't hurt to try pushing a little. and troll made a great point of calling a few stores.

Id just raise hell. Theres no way id accept responsibility for that. Ive dropped my 3gs from 15'+ and it hasnt broke (knock on wood).

If the phone fell from 2' and broke, thats a manufacturer defect in my eyes.

why not say the phone was sitting on your counter, vibrated and when you picked it up the screen was cracked....and yea keep trying different places i used to do it with hockey sticks, keep calling the company till someone nice answeres

to madgrip and area1320. it worked for me with verizon and all i had to do was tell them i'd be using ATT instead. got myself a free phone.

Well after explaining my story and telling them I was not in anyway confident or happy with there customer service I got transferred to a higher up. She said she felt bad I only had the phone for a week and they are going to replace it for free! Thanks for all your help guys! Being persistent and also using madgrips advice worked well! I honestly have nothing but good things to say about apple. Her name was Virginia and she was awesome
