Preparing the Jeep for surgery ***more work done/pics added***

I drove it in the garage this afternoon in one piece.

Removing the winch

Sheet metal removed. The engine gets pulled tomorrow.

Test fit the diesel today 02/15/06, Fits like a factory install.

My custom made motor plates with Energy Suspension isolators...

Water pump to electric fan clearance is right on the money

The GM HydroBoost brake booster and master cylinder fit right in.

Now it's time to take it all apart again and send it to the media blaster

Well, the rust demons have been hard at work the past few years. So, I will be doing some metal work first.

The list:

1. pull the 406 gas engine exchange with 6.5 Liter Detroit turbo diesel
2. getting rid of the automatic trans in exchange for SM465 shift it myself 4 speed.
3. Remove stock Dana 70 rear/Dana 60 front axle and install GM 14 bolt rear/modern Dana 60 front axle
4. 4 wheel manual drum brakes to 4 wheel power disc brakes
5. 6 inch lift
6. Scrap those tiny 37" Super Swampers for 40" Toyo's on some form of aluminum 22" rims
7.If the budget allows.. a 4" cowl induction hood. It's around $700 before shipping.
8. Tunes. I gotta have some music in this thing. Complete with Vietnam War soundrack with some anti-war and pro-war music.

I'll be in the garage everyday for at least the next month to get things rolling.

After a sleepless nite thinking about rust repair, I decided I'm stripping the truck south philly style and taking the chassis/cab/bed to Plastic Media Blasting to remove the rust and epoxy prime the whole thing. $1200 more than I was originally planning on spending. I will be a master sheet metal fabricator when this is done

After 38 years of battling the rust demons, they are officially winning!

Here is a shot of what remains of my driver's side rocker.

The floor..

Driver side cowl..

The firewall that was totally bastardized by the previous owner..

The 406 ready to be sent to its new home..

My new Holset. It's gonna send my head bolts thru my hood!

Can you order sheet metal pieces for it? Floor pans and the like?

And what is the 406 going in? I have a 400 on my garage floor and an 85 Monte Carlo waiting to be joined eventually.

I just placed the order for sheet metal- 2 new rockers inner and outer, floor pans, and cab corners. Everything else I will have to fabricate myself. I hope there is something to weld to after the media blaster gets to it.

The 406 was purchased by a guy that is planning to build a '32 Ford 5 window on a '27 chassis. I'm just happy that someone finally bought the motor/trans set up.

This truck will never be show quality. I painted it with a brush and roller when I bought it and it is just finally getting the 'weathered' look that I am after. Now after the body work that I have to do, it will need to be painted again

When it is complete, I will beat the $h*t out of it on every trail/mud hole I can locate

That's what I like to hear! If you ever need a copilot, I am happy to go and get dirty. I sold all my trucks and have the itch to get another. My boss is selling a 79 Bronco cheap that I am considering.

Best of luck with the project
