Anyone know about protege engine swaps

I'm burning a good bit of oil in my protege5... piston rings are going bad. Anyone have experience swapping engines with another 2L if I source it?

You could just rebuilt it ya know... not everything needs to be a motor swap.

Neary 100% sure its the rings. I've gone through a ton of diagnostics and researched quite a bit on the mazda boards. My understand is that fixing piston rings requires more then just putting new rings in, ie machine work?
