help me finish my audio setup

I just bought a Nissan 350Z a week or two ago. The stock system sucks, help.

I just want to preface this by saying I know ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about car audio, just that the audio in my 03 z (non-bose system) sounds like ****....even for me (a person that doesn't care too much about audio).

My goal is to have a primarily stock looking set up - if I can use the stock locations that is even better.

Head-unit - Pioneer AVH4200-DVD
Sub + box - Wicked Cas Corner Enclosure + JL Audio 10W1v2 or a JL Audio 10W3v3 (whats the difference between these two, is one clearly better than the other, worth the difference in price?)
Speakers - http://www.crutchfield.com/p_107DB65...1s.html?tp=105 (are these any good, i don't know brands, just going by recommendations on crutchfield - also should i just ditch the speakers behind my seats or upgrade them too...will i be able to notice a difference?)
Amp - ?
Tweeters - ? (are these even needed)

Probably my biggest complaint about the stock setup is the front speakers, sounds like they're non exisistant and everything is coming from behind. I want everything to sound 'centered' -- if that makes sense.

With the head-unit, box, and sub, i'm probably pushing close to a grand already. I want my limit to be 1500 all together, is this doable?

if you just want a little bass on the bottom, the w1 will be fine. if you want it to thump a little more, then the w3 is the way to go.


in general, jl equipment is pretty overpriced.... you could get away with a much cheaper amp and sub for what you are looking to do.


depending on what speakers are in the car now, you might get away with not replacing them. your best bet whether you replace them or not is to run them off of an amp instead of your headunit. the sound quality will be much better.

The only reason I chose the JL sub is because theres a "package deal" with the box, if I got the w3 it would only be like 150 bucks which I think is a pretty good price...especially for what I saw on crutchfield I think it was in the 200's.

The sub was recommended to me, so if I can find a better one for the price I'm definitely interested in it.

The speakers in my car are horrible. I'm just figuring if I'm going to do an audio set up I might as well get everything.

Do you have any opinions on if I should just replace the front and remove the speakers behind my seats, or if I should get all 4.

I have to component set up of those polks you linked (the ones where the speaker and tweeter are separate) and they are nothing but superb even without being connected to an amp right now.. I don't expect much less from the coaxial versions. Polk Audio stuff is pretty top notch.

We've done a few installs on 350Z's and as far as amp solutions go, I would say go with the MTX Jackhammer JH805 5 Channel Amp.

As you well know, there really isn't a lot of room in those cars and this amp is just what you're looking for. We were able to tuck the amp inside the pocket behind the Pass. Seat and run all the wires right to it. Doesn't eat up any truck or box space and it's nice and clean/concealed. If you're doing 4 door speakers and a sub, that would be my reccomendation

so your recomending a 5 channel amp?? that wouldnt be ideal when it comes to tuning the speakers...? like it wuldnt be the BEST sound considering you have one amp to tune the speakers and sub

A 5 channel amp is no different than having a 4 channel and sub amp. Tuning is no different. Please don't spread incorrect information.

well id like to keep this on subject with no argument. but my reasoning for running 2 seperate amps is that the amp for the sub should be set on LPF and the amp for the speakers should be set on HPF. i wouldnt like to run them on the same amp so i can tune each speaker indivdually. amd have the sub seperate. to me thats just the easiest way to get the best sound.

I guess you don't realize that a 5 channel amp has separate controls for the 4 channel portion and sub portion. Meaning...separate crossover setting for mids and subs, separate gain settings for mids and subs, etc. It's EXACTLY like have 2 amps without having to take up the space. So you CAN tune your interior speakers and subs, separately.

ok..did not know that, its been years since ive done audio. thats pretty cool i had no idea they have amps like that. so this convo could have been much shorter if someone would have thrown that in there...
