Trouble in the Middle East...

....over comic strips and cartoons. It's causing riots and more bombings.

So, technically speaking we could pull our troops, drop the ol' propaganda bombs with Muhammad cartoons then watch the whole area self destruct, right?

it really isn't just a comic strip.


It is strictly forbidden in the muslim religion to show or depict the face of muhammed. The dutch/danish newspaper published such a drawing. thas more then just a comic.

Just because the muslim religion forbids the depiction of muhammed, does not mean it is the law of the world. It is not exactly the most ethical decision to print the cartoon but regardless it is completly within the bounds of free speech. The part i find so alarming is actions of the muslim community. They claim to be a peacful and accepting people against the harm of innocence, yet what do they do when someone draws a picture they dont like? They attack and bomb innocent people who had nothing to do with the drawing. Where is this anger when a muslim commits a suicide bombing in the name of allah against innocent people, also against muslim law.

The extremists are the ones that are causing the problems though. Regular followers of the Muslim religion are for the most part not like that. The ones who are told "If you kill Americans, you sit with Allah" are the ones we worry about, because they've been raised and trained to hate us.

Exactly. They sit on their butts when a fellow muslim blows themselves up in a crowd of non-combatant muslims. Yet when a small European country's press makes a cartoon about Muhammed, the muslim world is up in arms. IMO, its because they know that they wont be bombed during this kind of protest since the extremist support this kind of rebellion.

ALL religions have zealots that act out in extreme ways, and all religious zealots are dangerous.

it does not mean that all muslims are bad people, they most certaintly are not. i do not agree with them acting out in violence, but i support their right to protest as well as the newspapers right to print the cartoon

I believe this is all manufactured and orchestrated outrage. Let me mention a few points to illistrate this.

1. The cartoons were originally published over four months ago. There was no widespread outrage then.

2. The outraged parties are themselves acting in the maner portrayed by the cartoons.

3. The protests have shifted targets from the paper and Denmark, to the whole of Europe, to the US and Israel.

So in effect, there seems to be some group of people that were looking for an excuse to be angry and violent. They had to go back to some obnoxious and inflamatory editorial cartoons, for inspiration, then change over the target of the attacks to the real object of their hatred.

Agreed. And they avenge this 'travesty' with a cartoon 'poking fun' at the holocaust, as if THAT is something even REMOTELY acceptable, much less at all comical. Maybe that's how apauled they feel, but I do not see them as similar at ALL.

It is time for the freaking blind US public to wake up and realize that it isn't just the Muslim "extremist" performing these acts. The entire Muslim community is at fault here because they have no moral responsibility toward others.

What cultural achievement has come out of the middle east in the last 2000 years, because I surely can't think of one? They will lead to the cause of the WW3. Doing this **** based off of a cartoon published in another country is outrageuos. It is just a shame none of the US media companies had the balls to publish it here, because the cartoons are accurate. People always are more upset when someone tells them the truth hence the riots.

The Philadelphia Inquirer printed two of the cartoons in saturdays paper. Obviously they are now being protested and muslims are calling for a boycott until they issue an apolgy.

It is Muslim extremeists carrying out these attacks but the rest of the muslim community is at fault for not speaking out against these atrocities. These actions and the actions of suicide bombers are as much against the teachings of the koran as the portayal of muhammad. So until the muslim community unites against these actions people will continue to stereotype them.

Ash, you forget, they dont need any reason to poke fun at jews, and its also ok apparently. Remember a few weeks ago when the leader of Iran stated that he doesnt believe the Holocost ever really happened. After some outrage he said he would have his people "look into" the events. Also, in the west bank they just elected Hamas, whos entire platform is based on the eradication of jews.

I personally think we should stop supplying aid and as quick as possible get ethonal and other alternative fuels on the road. We are a large source of their funding and it is that money that is making them a legitimte threat. If we stop sending billions of our dollars to them and instead start spending them on american made alternitives we would be much stronger and safer for it.
