I really have no patience for sellers that was my time-small rant

Just got back from looking at my first xj6.

Guy said the interior was in perfect condition. Also said the paint was in great shape but had some rust around the back window. The rust around the window is normal and can be repaired for under 1k. So what the heck I go to check it out.

The seats are all in **** condition. Seems are being pulled apart and leather is full of cracks. The paint is so damaged the entire car needs to be repainted.

I didn't even bother test driving it and said thanks but no thanks. For me to take this car from the guy he would have to pay me 3 grand.

Well I am looking for a used car so I guess I better get used to this kind of stuff. My quest continues.

Sounds like he definitely made it a lot better than what it seemed. I try to point out every flaw with my car. There are honest people out there... there are just 3 times as many crooked ones.

Personally...

I'd rather some one point out 500 small problems in the ad then have 500 suprises when I go to look at the car.

When people try to hide ****, its shady, and it makes me never want to buy from them.

Yeah I will look around a bit more and if this keeps happening I think I will bend over and take it from a dealer.

I may just pick this up from a dealer in NC. Overpriced but really nice.

I feel you on the seller thing dude. I was just in the same type of headache.

Long story short: Guy wanted to sell his Evo for an ungodly price(severely upside down) . Said take over his payments and pay a little extra on top because he lost his job. I agreed to pay him $2500 to pay the car off and give him plenty extra for the trouble. I got to his house to pick the car up and turns out the motor is blown and the trans is damn near shot as well!!! He still wanted me to hand over the cash and get the car towed because he was set on the money. His reasoning for keeping it a secret; He didn't think anyone would bite if they knew the truth.

Naw those are pretty rare. They didn't sell the V12 XJ series 3 in the US. There are some here grey market. Really not worth the money IMO. Little more power, worse handling and uses alot of gas.

If ya really want power just drop in a GM crate motor. It's very easy to do. Mate it to the upgraded tranny. Could be done for about 8 grand.

But I just want and all original cruiser. This is gonna be my family car. 8 months to my wedding.

Sucks to here that, I love the XJ6's. So much class and so unpopular. Do they have any major maintenance issues to watch out for? I'm always eyeing them up, but of course what I can afford is not to appealing and what I can't afford is.

They have a reputation for being unreliable but I don't find that to be true.

The problem is 25 years ago they came with some ****ty "Prince of Darkness" electronics. By this point it's either been replaced or the car has been scraped.

Very inexpensive to keep on the road.

Only real pain in the ass part to repair is the rear end. Rear brakes are inboard and the seals see alot of heat. They wear out faster then normal. Worst if it's not repaired it can lead to brake failure and ya crash your car. But if you got a puddle under your car and you don't fix it thats on you I say.

Thanks for letting me know.

These cars really don't make financial sense if they need paint and interior work.

Mint example 7k

beatup runner is 2-3k
interior work 5k
paint 5k
You paid 12-13k trying to get a good looking car.

perhaps you should look into making a wiser choice rather then buying a car that is older and more expensive go for a cheaper newer car that will be less cost on maintaining it... especially if your getting married, buying that old of a car as a family car just doesnt make much economical sense to me in the long run.

Some people just do that to get you out there than when you see it you think... ehh i might be able to fix it... than they haggle with you on it.. trust me i ahte it to. i looked at an 88 fiero this past weekend that the owner siad started right up drove and the paint was ok but faded in a few spots....... it was far from all of this.. needed new paint. started but died when you ghave it gas and the interior was falling appart.

HAHA Thanks for looking out but none of that really applies to me.

Buying a car that I can replace the entire drivetrain for 4k is an expensive car? I guess not to me.

Last month I blew out a coil on my solstice gxp. Know what I did? Drove it home and got in one of my other cars.

This is my attempt at getting something sensible. I wanted to get a Mark 9 or a Rolls S1. But as cool as they are they really are not something we can drive on trips. This is a symbol of our love and us starting a family I guess you could say. But we do it in style.
