Fuel Pump Issue? (WB 255lb Pump)

I have a walboro 255 fuel pump for my car and ever since i got the car about 5 months ago i noticed it has a "whining" sound to it. The guy i bought it from said its typical. However on longer drives (over an hour) the pump becomes extremely loud, almost like a loud whistle. Just wondering if this is normal or if i should be concerned. Thanks.

It's weird cause i know a small whining is usually heard by the 255, but the noise i hear is absurd. Like i can be listening to my music in the car and if i'm on a long trip i can hear the fuel pump plain as day. It sounds serious to me. And its to the point where if i get a new one a might just get a 190. I'm only running 11 psi.

I noticed a bit of a whine with my walboro 190 too. If your looking at swapping looking into the stock toyota supra pumps. They flow a bit more than the 255 but they are known to last a lot longer and mine never whined.

The factory 93-98 TT Fuel pump is a Denso pump, I run two on my car and can not hear them when the car is running at all.

Alright well i'm gonna get a new fuel pump regardless, so if the supra pump is really worth the extra cash i'm most likely just gonna get it. I just can't stand that walbro pump and all the noise it makes. Anyone know where i can get a cheaper supra pump? Like does anyone know someone selling one? Thanks.

Check supraforums and CL. In your case though, you're really paying for the comfort and longevity factors, so sucking it up and never worrying about it again is probably worthwhile.

Sounds like you're pump is overheating. Walbro's do whine, but it's not THAT bad. I can't hear mine once I fire the car.

I rarly hear my 255hpi and when I do I either A) turn up the stereo or B) give it more gas. Generally I don't hear it anymore after one, the other or both.

I got my used TT Supra pump for under 100 shipped back when i actually had a dsm and used it for 20k miles before selling it to a friend who's been using it for 4-5 years since. They are made by Denso who are known for their reliability. I believe they put out 260 lph. You can also check the bigger dsm sites like dsmtalk and dsmtuners for people selling used ones.

Yeah i just sucked it up and bought a brand new denso yesterday for $235. Honestly as long as its reliable and doesn't give me and issues than i don't have a problem dishing out that kind of money. But it checked out some other sites and the denso seems to get great reviews by everyone.

A wise move on the Denso pump. They can support a lot of power too. You should be set fuel pump wise for just about anything you'd care to do down the road.
