Hood Pins and recommendations

I have Sparco hood pins on my car now

http://www.bakerprecision.com/hoodpin.htm

and I like the quality but they are all rusty.

Someone want to recommend quality hood pins that stand up to the weather.

A buddy recommended I get them anodized to help prevent them from rusting in the future but I'm wondering if I can just find nice new ones instead.

Thanks.

is it just surface rust? Sand them down a little, and paint.

Another option would be the hood pins that actually lock. That would probably reduce the risk of rust as there are not many place were metal contact metal that is exposed to the elements.

I have sparco pins that I had powdercoated black, and they rusted after one winter.

I sort of thought powdercoating wasn't going to work too well. The reason I was looking to get them anodized instead.

I like the locking pin idea but my hood is at a slight angle where the current pins go through so I'm not sure the locking ones would work too well with them. I'll have to check out hood pins the next time I'm at Atco and see if anyone has theirs setup like that.

I'm still suprised your's rusted. Mine are getting pretty old now and still no signs of rust. I wonder if they changed something after you bought yours.

Maybe I got a knock-off. Who knows. I bought them at a local tuner shop up in the Boston area when I use to live up there. Where did you buy yours? And what color are they?

I had two sets of the APC (ok, stop laughing) pins (BTW, they look identical to the Sparcos) The set on the WRX didn't rust, but the set on the Talon has surface rust, but only on the rings, the rest looks new. Not sure what's going on there.

I just got another set of Sparcos yesterday. I'll look into getting them anodized.

I missed this I guess.

I got mine from NOPI I think. My hood and pins were actually purchased by a friend, then he decided he needed the money more than the hood so I got them both for a great deal. They are silver. Theres a little black (just dirt I think) where pieces rub together, but I think it will clean right off.

They will continue to rust, no matter what you coat them with, if you don't stop the pin from rubbing (what ever rust preventing coating) off on the female part. Seems like everything these days is made from cheap Chinese steel (low Ni content) that will rust like crazy if exposed just a little, and that doesn't help. You could get them chrome plated, but you still need something to protect the pin surface from rubbing/scratching it off.

You could only get them anodized if they were Aluminum (which is what you should do, and these are obviously not Al, hence rust).
