Early morning drives?

I don't know how many other people are in the position I am. I wake up before 5am for work M-F, so the weekends come and my ass is still up and ready to go by 6 the latest. I can lay in bed and try to fall back asleep but I'm up, and it sucks-

So over the past few weeks I've either thought about or went out for a little cruise starting around 6am. Today it started with getting sugar for morning coffee and the last time it was started by something even less important.

The roads are empty. The po-po are sleeping, malls and pharmacy's have yet to open for the elderly, and the drunks are still puking their brains out.

And well it could quite possibly be the best time to go cruising. Anyone else go out for the early morning cruise? There should be a cruise somewhere for some breakfast one morning... Maybe a Shmagel or shomething.

A morning cruise does sound like fun. Maybe take some back roads to a good place to get some good breakfast, not a place like Dunkin' Donuts.

I work night shift. I'm always on the roads at 6:30am. So nice. Sometimes I take a detour on the way home to cruise through the central PA mountains. The views just after sunrise are amazing. The car also likes the cold air a little bit better than the 90* mid day crap.

Sounds like a great idea! Low traffic, lower temps, nice natural light. And unlike my youthful habits, now that I'm older my bio-clock won't let me sleep in late anyway. I'm going to try this, too.

Definitely one of the best times to drive. I love driving at odd hours. My favorite time to drive is between midnight and 7am. I had to drop off/pick up my brother and sister-in-law from the airport last fall for their honeymoon. For drop off, we left at 1am, and I got back at 730am. Pick up, I left at 9pm and got back at like 3-4am. It's so relaxing when you're the only one on the road.

I can't drive at 6am. Unless I've been up for a few hours already. Otherwise I hate life.

most times when i'm on my way home late at night (1am or 2am) it seems pretty dead. you can really schred some back roads except you gotta watch for deer and what not..... problem is most of the time if you go into a town at that hour you will see a cop (i assume they like that time of night because nothing happens...i cant blame them i guess...)

one of these days hopefully i'll get to try an early AM cruise

I agree. Last night, I was with some friends a few towns over at another friends house and time flew by and before we knew it, it was 5 am. Me and my friend with a gti decided to leave around 530ish and we decided to cruise on the highway. There was maybe one car, and it was nice out. It was as if it was towards the end of the day with the sun going down, but with no traffic. I did see one cop but my friends radar barely went off. I fell asleep around 730am, woke up at 2 and was late for work so I called out. fun.

That time of the day on a weekend is a great time to do anything. I think I enjoy sunrises even more than sunsets, especially during the summer when the early morning is the best weather of the day.

I'm with you on the early morning cruise, although I haven't gone on one in a while. I'm a fly fisherman, so I often would be up and driving early on sat. and sun. mornings, and I love it. Just haven't been fishing in a while ;)

I'm up at 430 every day, out the door by 530. I love my 45 minute commute to work! I go from NE Philly to Willow Grove, and there's about 10 different ways I can take so it never gets old. Leaving work is a different story!

I'm up for a weekend early morning cruise. Be a nice time to head down the shore or just take a drive through some scenic areas.
