Undercover Police cars

Saw this on another forum. I've heard about Police agencies going to these measures, never actually saw one though, but it's a stealthy idea.

Quote:
There has been rumours and stories regarding the existence of this car. It really does exist and this is what it looks like. It has no front plate, and is the only Subie in this trim with these lights that I have seen. If you see this car, refuse to race it. It goes around trying to bait people into street races by riding peoples tails an flashing it's lights at them.
Take note of fog light setup on it

OEM from the side

Plate cover, and Police Interceptor beneath the Subaru badge

Do I think this is entrapment, no.

This about sums up my thoughts.

Quoted from someone on another forum.
Quote:
Obviously if they're flashing their lights at you and are asking you to race, they're trying to see if you'd do it. Whether they're a cop or not shouldn't influence your decision; the smart thing to do would be to tell them to go screw off regardless if there's a cop around or not. Basically, I don't see it as making people do something they wouldn't do otherwise, like selling the gun to an undercover officer. They're going to do it regardless.

they used to do this on 202. maybe they still do. but when i was in school and traveled the 202 bypass everyday, they had a gold intrepid and a black camaro that i definitely know of. they would provoke you, wait til you hit triple digits and then throw on the strobes and pull you over. never got me, but ive seen them do it to a lot of people. at least once a week the intrepid would tailgate the **** outta me at like 75 mph, then he would get pissed when i would just move over. its not entrapment but its definitely profiling.

I still think thats entrapment. I DO think it makes you do something you would ordinarily not do. The COPS are initiating it. Not the so called "street racer."

I dont street race, but if youre being an annoying f*ck, you bet im gonna drop it a gear and peace out. If that makes me a street racer, then I've lost all faith in law enforcement. You cant ANTAGONIZE someone and expect them to do nothing.

If nothing else, its profiling of people who drive modified vehicles. I bet they're not revving or flashing at stock Honda Accords or Geo Metro's.

There still an inteprid and a older camaro aroundy way. Funny cause I was on rt 1 beginning of summer and asked my friend is he's seen the inteprid lately cause I haven't seen in a hot min. Next thing you know I see it fly past us going after an older camry.

I think driving by driving a modded car you've pretty much profiled yourself. Now the choice to fit this "profile" is all up to you. When a cars modded it's obviously to enhance it over stock, in some way. When a cop sees this you bet your ass he knows the drivers probably gonna wanna flex the work hes done. The difference is if you're mature enough to have a modded car and not act like a tool bag when provoked.

Whew, then you won't need to post here then.

A few forums this was posted on, it got to be a good debate and discussion about whether or not this is entrapment.
Figured it would be a good discussion. The "Street racing" topic reminded me of this.

Right, but thats STILL entrapment! Even if youre NOT mature enough to not act like a tool, the fact of the matter is, YOURE BEING PROVOKED.

Provoked. Entrapment. Antagonized.

All go hand in hand.

Simple, don't race people.

If you are a criminal and police give you a chance to commit a crime and catch you in the act it's not considered entrapment.

If you are put in a position to do something you wouldn't normally do that in entrapment.

Since no one forces you to race that is not considered entrapment.

However if the driver was screaming and calling you a pussy and started throwing **** at your car that would most definitely be entrapment.

See thats where i disagree. You said "if the driver was screaming and yelling," its entrapment. How is revving and flashing your lights any different? This is not the same situation as a bait car left unattended and running at a wawa. Thats a PASSIVE bait car. This is quite the opposite- theyre TRYING to get you to **** up, TRYING to get you to race them.

If the two were equal, with the unattended bait car setup, it would be legal to PERSUADE, even PRESSURE someone into stealing it. Thats essentially what theyre doing with the street racing. If a cop PRESSURED someone to steal a car, you BET YOUR ASS that'd be entrapment. I dont see how this is ANY different.

judging from the quotes, the cop didn't get out of the car and talk anyone into racing.

If you don't street race at all, I suppose you don't have to worry about being baited into street racing with a cop, now do you?

That's gonna be real tough to build a case for. If most reasonable people would just ignore this car then your not gonna have much of a case. I have a tough time believing a jury is gonna side with based on the fact that a guy revved his engine.

99 out of 100 people would ignore some ass hat revving his motor. So your gonna have a real tough time calling entrapment.
