Home computer network setup

Since i moved in i was just using my laptop on wireless. I Switched to my desktop and am running wireless from out neighbors via usb connector in my window. Not a card. (neighbors are family).

Is there a way to run my laptop wireless with my desktop being the link? I think i would have to use my computer as the bridge to the router then?

I have an old wireless b router here and it would be good enough. My house is small.

I dont think i am looking for the right stuff in Google because it keeps just pulling up stuff that connects a router to a desktop not usb to desktop to router.

I believe you can do it with a crossover cable(network cable but some of the pins are reversed). It is how you network 2 computers together without a router in the middle. They can in turn, share the network. I did it back in the day but I think the newer computers you can just run regualar network cables and then go through the network setup wizard.

im sure if this sure if this is what you mean. but you can run a lan from your pc to your laptop (which is getting the signal) and set up a home network through windows... and poof... they both have internet... they will share bandwidth though. so the connectjin proboblaly wouldnt be too great...

Just get one of those Easy buttons. That'd be a lot EASIER than all kinds of technological doohickery.

You should be able to connect your laptop to your computer via an ethernet cable. You then go into your desktop computer and set up a LAN between your desktop and your laptop. From there, your laptop should be able to leech off of your desktop which is connected to the internet. making your laptop also connected.

if that makes sense. I'm not 100% sure but Im pretty sure thats how it works lol

Yeah i know that., windows practically does it for you. I want to use my laptop wireless. I don't have a cable line active here, now i have internet is a wireless usb adapter getting signal from my neighbor. So i would have to get the signal to my computer then back out to a router.
