Radar/Radar Detector questions

First, what does an officer think when he pulls you over and sees a car with a radar dector? Are you more likely to get a ticket because of it?

What kind of range can police radar actually catch people at, and i've heard that it has to be shot to a flat part of the car to get an accurate reading, of how fast the car is traveling at is this true?

Thanks.
