Why not buy decent all season tires and be safe?

I have summer only on my mitsu and I would never drive that in the cold.. it just spins

so, summer tires and mustang it is this winter. course... i ain't stupid... if there is snow on the ground i'm sitting my ass at home and working
you didnt read my post.
you'd have to say "any time its below 40 degrees out i'm sitting my ass at home" for it to start to sound logical.
and before anyone makes the argument about being careful, being a good driver, etc... emergency situations happen, and when you're on tires that grip like piss because they're not made for the conditions, then its just flat out dangerous and irresponsible.

p.s. i will try to find an older pic of my subie in winter mode... not the current setup but i love the pic so i'm posting it.

looking at at least $600 on tires, then another $100 per tire to mount and balance. then another $100/tire to swap the tires back to summer in the spring. so, already looking at 1400... thats estimated, i'm not sure if there are additional costs involved with rims w/ TPMS on them already. So, it'll probably cost about the same to get blizzacks + new rims + TPMS for them.

I've been running summer tires every year so far since 2005. Only once did i have issues in the srt... but i was broke, my tires were bald, and i was driving home from work mid-day through a blizzard in central PA. Every other time in this area I've been perfectly fine. I also don't go out when there is a significant amount of slush or snow on the ground.

I also have a work laptop... i can sit at home and work all winter if i needed to

Same as last year. 16x7 Mark/Crown Vic wheels with 205/55 Blizzaks front and Dunlop winter rears.

Pic from last season.

I try to drive the BMW as much as possible though and keep the 7 locked up in the garage.

Here is my winter setup, tC dropped on road magnet springs with new kumho solus all season tires. Hoping like hell that it does better than last year haha. It's a daily driver so it has to handle all conditions.

I will be putting the stock wheels and all seasons back on for the winter. Once I find a key for these lugs, seeing as how the last place that fixed my brake issue destroyed the lug key

Yes. Just look out for me. I'm going to kill everyone with my dangerous tires just like I did last winter.

I'm not sure if I agree, summer tires are a softer rubber than all seasons, so as the temperature drops I would think they are still going to be softer and provide more grip. As soon as there's snow on the ground, all bets are off as all seasons have the little snow grabbers (technical term) in the tread and the summers don't.

I've been daily driving on these Kuhmo XS's which are about as soft a compound as you can get right now and I will admit that for the first minute or so of driving they are slippery because they are dead cold but they very quickly build up temperature from just rolling and then have a decent amount of grip. I was planning on getting another set of Proxes 4's for this cold season but they were pretty worthless in the 2 days of snow we had last winter anyway so I may just take some sick days for the snow this year and save myself the thousand dollars with how decent these XS's have been thus far.

For those of you complaining about the cost of buying a seperate winter setup .. It's really not that difficult to save yourself some money. Look through the FS areas of various forums. I found my winter setup -- the 18" wheels with like-new tires already mounted and balanced -- for $850. INCLUDING shipping. I paid extra on top to have 'em painted, but that was my personal choice.

B and I split the cost of new all-season tires to put on his Del Sol. So I'll be taking that to class if the snow is ever too bad, so that the G can stay hidden in the garage. I'll have to take a picture of that goddamn car and post it up so everyone can laugh. It's like a flashback from the 90s.

Ehh, throw a mortgage, oil bill, electric bill, and every other GD bill into the mix, plus a baby girl (that's right, this dirty **** is having a girl, I am doomed) and trying to squeeze out $600 just for Winter Tires into the mix is like trying to get a girl to have Anal. . just not happening ;)
