If it weren't for the boot camp, and leaving home, and possibly dying, I would totally join. Sounds like I need to join the Navy...hahaha

Stop being a pussy. Boot Camp is like preschool, leaving home builds character and worries about possibly dying are for the weak.

For those worries, you should do the Air Force.

Thank you for your service!!!

If you want to get into law enforcement when you get out, try to study a second language if you can. I heard from a few friends that are federal agents in various branchs that any foreign language experience will be a big help and make you stand out.

On a side note, I just got a call that my fiends tour in Iraq is over and he is getting on a plane home in the next day or so.

My younger brothers are both Army guys. One is 22 and 6 years in and the other is leaving in 5 days. I have to lose some weight before I can enlist, but I am going Marines.

Good luck on the Marines, good choice ;) If you have any questions about it let me know!

Oops, typo, I meant to say 5 years. When he was 17. We all graduated high school when we were 17, except for my youngest brother who got left back and had to do an extra year because he switched schools for senior year. He is leaving September 22 for Fort Bragg. He is 19. I am the oldest at 23 and feel like an idiot going in at my age but I really want to serve my country and it's now or never. Did you serve with the Marines or do you just know people in it? I got a lot of questions answered about the MOS in the Army that I wanted to go into, but the Army doesn't seem to want people because I've tried to enlist with 3 recruiters and they all were incredibly coy. I even reported them to my contact at Fort Knox.

You do realize that was the Vietnam war, right? I mean, I've talked to people in the military from that time period who still serve and everything is different. Even Boot Camp is different.

I served. I was in from May 2000 until May 2004. So, like I said, If you have any questions, let me know. I am positive some things have changed, but I can at least offer up what I went through, etc.

I watched the first 45 minutes of that movie at LEAST once a day for a month before I left for Boot Camp. Going in expecting THAT. . . made boot camp "easy". And by easy I mean not complete hell.

Some changes have been made since then. The DI's are not allowed to touch you. Buuuttt, I'll just say they do their BEST not to. Name calling is still there. But I didn't hear many "fagots" just very other colorful and creative names. With the Marines it all depends on what Battalion you are in 3rd having the reputation of being the worst (hardest), 2nd was just known as all around ****bags (why, I have no clue) and 1st was more geared toward perfection. I dunno, I was in 1st Battalion. It was still a pain in the ass and very trying at times. The biggest obstacle is staying strong mentally and not letting them in. ahhhh meemmmooorrriiieessss

The last part of that post from me was geared towards SN2. Did you serve in the Marines? If you did, I do have some questions, PM pl0x, or I have AIM/MSN.

I can't fly due to wearing glasses. I know there are some corrective eye surgeries that will allow me to poilet and some don't. It would be cool but haven't see any real action from the AF since the WWs. The jsut drop bombs from miles away. No hard core air fights anymore. Stupid technology.

There are dogfights all the time. Plus, you get to do a lot of training with your wing mates with simulated fire. What could be more fun than taking out a $15,000,000 airplane and not having to put your life on the line, just for the fun and training of it? Idk, that alone, knowing you are becoming better with every training session so one day you can beat the crap out of an Iranian MIG without him even knowing you are there, is worth it. Even for just the fact that you are a god damn fighter pilot who HAS to be able to take 9 g's before they are allowed to fly one.
