Like someone else asked.... Whats your lifestyle? Theres 1001 things out there that point to lifestyle having an impact on sleep habits. I used to have an issue with restless sleep. As soon as i stopped injesting caffeine after 5pm.... it stopped. That was the ONLY thing i changed..on the recommendation of a doctor.

I guess I'm lucky... I wake up in the morning whether or not my alarm goes off. I have mine set for 7:15am but I usually wake up 7-7:15am on my own anyway. The only time I'll sleep past that natural alarm clock is if, as said earlier, I was drinking the night before.

Im a fairly healthy eater, and I dont drink soda. The only time I have anything with caffeine is chocolate. (chocoholic). I ride motocross as often as I can, so I'd say i'm in pretty good shape. I am a smoker, I smoke about half a pack a day. I also poke smot (gasp), but this problem has been around much longer than Ive been smoking. If anything, the pot helps me go to sleep at night. I rarely partake in alcoholic beverages. I like to drink, but I cant remember the last time I was drunk. I dont really care for the taste of alcohol, except for beer. Ive tried all the alram clock tricks, hell, even my mom cant wake me up. When I was in high school she dumped cold water on me to wake me up. I cursed her off and fell back asleep. Because of my hormone thing, I'm usually hypoglycemic in the morning, which contributes to my drowsyness (but also makes me a very nasty person to be around until I get some food in my stomach). I'd say I have "bouts of depression." On days that I sleep through my classes, I'm especially depressed. When I dont go to class, I just want to give up and say f*ck school. I feel like a complete bum, and a waste of $15,000 (tuition). It bothers me the entire day. I have to feel like my day has been productive, and if I dont go to class, I dont get that sense of accomplishment that I need, even if I go to work.

dude, i have the same exact problem, i hate the morning, if i wake up in the morning with 12 hours of sleep im still tired, i use to never be able to get up for work, then for one week i had a night shift and i never had to set an alarm, got 6 hours of sleep, and woke up fully awake. luckily for me i have night classes. i could wake up early in the morning, usually i set my alarm for 10 but i know ill be bored so i fall back asleep til 1. it just sucks cuz none of my friends are awake at 4 in the morning to hang out. i just hope i find a night job in the future

I sometimes have problems getting up in the morning. However, when I wake up in the morning I usually hit the alarm clock and force myself to stay up, kind of like you force yourself to sleep.

I am like this also. Not quite as extreme but I have a lot of trouble sleeping. Basically I get like 6-7 hours of sleep, but thats only if I force myself to sleep by taking pills, which is basically every night. Its really odd though, like if I get 10 hours of sleep, I'm out of it alllll day. If I go to bed at like 2 and get up at 7, I'm pretty awake, but I can't do that because I end up with no energy after a few days. I can sleep 12+ hours, but then I'm still tired. If I force myself to be awake with 5 hours, I'm fine. wtf. But waking up for me is even worse then trying to sleep. I'm a mean sombich in the morning lol. I also set like 3-5 alarms on my phone. 7, 7:15, 7:30, and 7:55.

Its not that I cant get to sleep- the problem is I cant get to sleep WHEN I want to. If I dont wake up until 2:30, I'm not going to be tired enough to go to sleep 10 hours later at midnight. I havent been awake long enough to be tired at midnight, so I'll take a melatonin to fall asleep. Im told that melatonin is the natural chemical in your body that alerts you that you're tired. Theyre over the counter pills, and arent even in a child-proof container. I take one, about 30 minutes later I feel DRUNK, with a slight stomach ache, and 10 minutes later I'm out cold.

My body's natural sleep cycle, if left unaltered would be roughly bed at 5:00am, wake 2-3pm. I have forced myself to go to bed earlier by taking the melatonin, but it doesnt seem to be effecting my waking time as much as I'd like it to. Some days it works great. Some days I take a melatonin before bed and wake up 5mins before my alarm goes off and feel fully rested. But its still usually a struggle to get myself up if I have class at 10.

any person with semi regular bodily functions should need no more than 8hrs of sleep. anymore than that and you're putting your body back to sleep and you will be more tired instead of more awake as it would seem. as for the OP, sounds like the hormones you were taking have effected you negatively and seeing a doctor should be first priority. sleep is very important day in and day out, and getting too much/not enough is very unhealthy. taking pills isnt recommended because eventually your body will become accustomed to them and they wont work anymore. try sleeping 4hrs instead and see what happens. sleeping in 4hr increments up to 8hrs is the best. your body goes into REM sleep in 4hr increments. but def go see a doctor.

420sx- stop smoking pot and you'll see a difference in how long you sleep! (not to flame or make fun but its true, i noticed a huge difference, and i'm only saying you smoke cuz of your username)

otherwise tell a family member to wake you up. turn your phone alarm clock to the time you want when it rings you think your getting a call but guess what your not. and you say you shut phone the off well put a thumb tack where the off button is and when you incoherently turn it off lol you'll become coherent when you prick yourself lol

This wont cure anything obvs but,
My GF hides her alarms (she sets like 4-5)
so when they go off she has to go find them all
and she tries to find new places for them so she doesnt just remember them all real quick and hop back into bed subconsciously
Maybe that would help for the time being?

i do that sometimes, my arm falls asleep and i dunno what im doing.
i took sleeping pills once, made me feel like **** the next morning.

if my dad wakes me up its annoying, i get so pissed off and have a bad day, so i just go back to sleep.

my alarm clocks use to never wake me up because my mind knew wat it was when i was sleeping, and id sleep through it.

now i use my cell phone, when it goes off i think someone is calling me, i also have a vibrating disc hooked up to an annoying alarm clock that i put on my bed. i only use that when i absolutely need to be up in the morning.

Have you tried to "reset" your internal clock? Sometimes when mine got out of whack for whatever reason I would just NOT go to sleep. That way when 8pm or so rolled around I was crashing and crashing hard. After that everything seemed to be back to normal.
