Try being in New England, where it is a Philly Steak and Cheese. Its almost enough to want to hurt someone. That, and there is not enough greese, they use swiss or american cheese, and there are usually no onions, peppers, and mushrooms! That to me is a mortal sin.

But yes, my hoagies (yes, hoagie damnit), it should go like this:

Roll
Spicy Mustard
Roast Beef
Mushrooms (yes, I know)
More Roast Beef
and then top it off with more spicy mustard
Roll

And to wash it down, either a nice cold Coke, or if I can, a nice cold beer.

In my opinion, if I am very hungry, I could care less what order its in. Now if I want a sub then yes I will be picky.

I think I saw that on PBS? They had a show of 1000 famous foods that originated in Philly...was that them?

it got its name from most of the people coming in and ordering it came from hog island to bring the food with them to work. it all originated in chester, pa.

NO! it is a hoagie! What kind of name is sub? Is sub, short for submarine? Cause the it is reminiscent of a submarine?

When I lived in Florida if you asked for a cheese steak they would just look at you. You had to say to specifically say Philadelphia cheese steak

the order of the stuff on the sandwich doesn't bother me, but there are 2 sides to a sub/hoagie/grinder/whatever the crap you happen to call it in your city... I'm a little OCD I think, which is why crap like this irritates the ever-loving snot out of me...

There are 2 sides to a foot long when it's been cut in half, obviously. There's the right hand side, and the left hand side, as I like to call them. The right hand side can be eaten with (mostly) your right hand, with the opening facing up, so all the meat and cheese and junk doesn't fall out. Then there's the left hand side, which, if eaten with your right hand, would either have to be eaten with the top of the bread upside down, or with the cheese falling on the floor, so you need to eat it with your left hand.

I'm right-handed and it always irritates me when I finish one side of a sandwich and then have to attack the other half from a different angle. It's probably the stupidest most nit-picky thing anyone could ever be irritated about, but hey... welcome to my life!
