Burning oil smell and smoke

So last night i came home and the decided to pop the hood cause i smelled burning oil on my entire trip home. Popped the hood to see a small cloud of smoke come directly from the back of the engine bay right behind the valve cover. Checked the oil and its nice and clean not milky, but the smell and smoke bothers me. Oil level isnt low either. no leaks that i saw either

I just installed a Forve VTA BOV and I am wondering if that has anything to do with it?? Car is going to Mazda on monday for some warranty work and I want to know what to tell them about this issue, if there even is one. Just did an oil change and everything on the underside was clean, and exactly 4 quarts of oil came out..

wtf is going on here

try going back to the stock part and see if you get a repeat of the issue. Chances are if you install something then have an issue, the part you installed caused it.

unless you tapped a wrong vacuum creating irregular crankcase ventilation i dont see a bov being the cause. do you have a breather or the sort hooked up? you're sure nothing is leaking, oil/coolant lines?...it doesn't have to be oil. What kind of fittings are around that area? how's your pcv valve if it comes with one? sorry im not too familiar with your engine but those can be some things you can start looking for.

Post a few pictures of your vacuum line routing on mazda-speed.com

Can't do much diagnosis from a post like this.

your car is under warranty so just take it in. unless you know your engine bay really well and have experience working on and diagnosing problems i dont know how far you'll get yourself so might as well leave it to a trained tech to diagnose.

Well its going in tomorrow morning to have a few things checked out and I will definately mention this to them, but I wanted to get some knowledge on the topic because I dont want them to start telling my that my BOV causes it and then have me stand there with no grounds or info to know if they are just trying to weasel out of a repair or what.

well like mentioned above... if your car is fine, and then you change something, and then your car isnt fine... you've got to look at what you changed. most of the time its not the part itself but rather a problem with the install. i dont think its a bad idea to go back to the stock part either and go over every single hose, line, bolt you touched in the process, and maybe get a 2nd eye to look at it as well in case you're missing something.

You said you installed a VTA BOV, so you probably rerouted some of the vacuum lines.

ok guys i sniffed around further and its coming from the turbo. i didnt get smoke today but i got more around the engine bay right after finishing a drive and the smell was coming from where the turbo is, you could even feel more heat coming from that part of the bay than any other...normal?? I have been a bit hard on it lately, maybe the turbo is just getting hotter than normal because of my driving.

edit: it doesnt smell so much like oil, more like a hair dryer after you run it for a while...anyone know what i mean?
edit2: it wasnt even a smoke, more like a steam becasue it didnt linger in the air.

Took it to mazda today, the tech said he checked for leaks and found nothing (as i did) so they told me that its not an issue. Dont know if I should take their word for it or not though.

Car has 36k on it but I got the car used so I can only assume the turbo is the same.

mebbe the BOV was just really dirty and breaking in, sometimes assembly lubes leave some god-awful stench when heated

so they found a leak at where the transmission hooks up to the driveshaft and replaced the seal, and fixed my shifter, in less than an hour and 30 minutes...is this possible? smell seems to be slowly fading away i think

Cabin air filter? if your earlier post said you thought it came from the vents.
