It didnt give you the option when you set it up? I have netgear and when I installed it there was a part about securing it.

What password are you trying to set up? Is it the password to log into the router? Password for encryption? Also, who makes the router?

Generally, if you log into your router (typically, its 192.168.1.1, or 192.168.0.1), it should have a security tab for WEP/WPA encryption. If it is the router's actual password, that SHOULD be under some sort of Administrative option.

then go into internet explorer and type in 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 - Those are the 2 common addresses of your router (you can find it by clicking on the wireless network icon in the task bar, clicking status, then clicking the support tab. The address is called gateway). Put that number in as a web address, and you should get an interface (a webpage) that has all of the settings for your router. You might need a password to access this, and if they didn't give you one when they installed it, it is usually admin (username) and password (password), or admin (username) and admin (password), or no username and admin (password), or no username and password (password). Or it is simply written underneath the router.

Once into the web interface, look for a tab that is called wireless, or wireless security. The option you want to setup is called wep/wpa encryption. If they had trouble getting her computer to connect, I would try wep first because some computers have issues with WPA (i know it is more secure, but who is really trying to crack his home network).

Pick a password that you want to use for your encryption key (or have it generate one for you), and then save and try to connect to it!

try nothing at all. Look for a sticker on the bottom of it with a password
