Need some electronic, soldering experts...fixing my GPS
The connector that plugs into the charger broke and wont charge the Unit now. Well i opened up the Gps Unit took the motherboard (or circuit board maybe?) I noticed that the charger connection peice has like 5 prongs(silver strips) that attach it to the circuit board... well they were all broken, actually they looked fried... Can i just go to lowes and pick up solder and do it myself... i have never soldered in my life. To sum this up.. Im assuming if i solder this connecter back to the circuit board, it will hold a charge again. I would just take it to a computer/electronics repair shop.
If you've never soldered before, you'll **** it up. It's good to first solder with various other things b/f jumping into electrical boards.

it doesn't have a warranty? I work with electronics, well not directly, but i know that just going to solder it is a bad idea. certain electronics will get ruined if your solder gun is too hot etc etc. a buddy here had theirs go on them and they sent it back and got a replacement.

i baught it used for $100 it worked great for a year or so

Yea man soldering incorrectly can mess it up permenently. Get it done by someone who knows what they are doing and has the right equipment.

let me also say that im not scared to destroy this gps. I was planning on buying a new or an iphone because that has the gps too this weekend.
I figured it would be a fun shot. But realistically if i could fix it for $10 then ****, its worth it. I might just sell it for $50

I was talking to help fix it, Electronics is my means of employment.
If you don't care about possibly messing it up and want to get a new one anyways, try it out yourself, good practice

how much would u charge to fix it? If i took everything apart and you just needed to solder that one part?
