Lets talk Nikon Speedlights

I have a Nikon D40X and I am to be the photographer for a fashion show for the 3rd Year. Last 2 times I used a rebel xti with the standard built in flash with mixed results and most of the time had it on P so I could set it to my likings. I was looking at this: Nikon SB-600 Speedlight and was wondering if anyone has used it or knows anything about it.

Also I kind of know what a speedlight is a quicker recycle charge but all the settings and such. What else which Im sure there is alot do they do? All help is appreciated thanks

I'm actually curious on the same topic. I'm looking into getting a better flash so I'm watching this (I have a D40). My one thing would be check out this site: http://kenrockwell.com/index.htm It seems like he knows his stuff and I've been reading a lot of his reviews lately.

I have an SB-800, which is quite similar. I like it, works well.

Been using a SB600 for the last few years. No issues at all. Works great. My only advice, when you get the flash, get a diffuser with it. It will help soften the light from the flash itself.

The trigger sends the signal to the receiver to fire the flash. You 'll use this on bodies that don't have commander mode, or if you use a non-Nikon flash, or if you don't own an SB800 to act as a master to trigger the slaves.

you press the shutter release as you normally would and it'll trigger the flashes/strobes.

I have an SB-600 and a Gary Fong diffuser on my D80. Pics come out great!

Just a quick random example from our New Years Eve party
