Newb to photography...56K NO WAY----EDITING ATTEMPTS POST #6

Hey guys. Just got a Canon EOS Rebel K2 film SLR from my gf and took some shots yesterday. Got them put onto a cd at the local Walgreens and they kind of screwed up my second set with a "pixel-like" mark on them but I dont mind since these were just my testing out the camera. I would appreciate any input from you guys and hope you guys like something I did. Thanks and on to the pictures...

any desire to move towards digital?

the problem I have with film is that unless you develop it yourself, you're missing out on a good portion of photography, which is post processing. If you leave it up to {insert random place} to develop your film, some of your images will be lacking. It could be lacking, contrast, saturation, dodge/burning portions of the images, trying various color schemes, etc.

as far as the images posted, you're off to a good start but some of the images lack what I call 'punch' or 'pop.' None of the images stand out, either it be the subject, colors of the photo, etc. None of the images make me look for more than a brief moment to analyze the composition, your lighting, etc. The only one that stands out is the shot of the bridge; one thing that would make the photo stand out is an early morning shot with fog, or after a snow storm, or fall foliage. As it is now, it's a bit bland.

Keep shooting, look at how others shoot and look at images that stand out for you. This will give you an idea of how to frame a scene, what type of lighting / time of day works best, if you need any filters, etc.

ive gotta agree with rice, the fun with shooting film is playing around with the photos in a darkroom. that makes the whole experience 10000000x better. shooting film can be very rewarding and you can produce fantastic pictures with film but its going to be very hard if you leave it up to some random place to develop your pictures for you. for now just try to work on your composition and the technical aspects of photography and try to find a darkroom that is accessible to you in the meantime.

thanks for the input guys...I understand what you mean with the pop and all that which most of these are lacking and understand that alot of the fun is the post picture editing and that it is a huge aspect....unfortunately, i dont own any editing software or anything as of right now so i cant really play around with the pictures i take beyond the very simple things. I have someone that I have been talking to that is starting to explain shutter speed, apeture, importance of lighting and all that....but these were my first trial pictures just to see where my skills or lack there off stood....these are the first "real" pictures i have EVER taken. hope i can improve over these soon and give you guys something cool to look at....btw...idk what it is, but i really like my picture of the remote...thats the only one that truely stands out to me as different and doesnt look like i did it as a beginner lol...more input would be great also
thanks

i think the one that made any improvement at all is the one with the wheel. you didnt need to do so much with the bridge shot, that one was fairly good from the beginning. Its also gonna be hard to manipulate a film photo on your computer. just keep shooting and getting familiar with the camera and its settings before tryin to mess around with editing. should make for better pictures in the long run. keep at it.

thanks lol...i went out again today playing with the camera and tryin to work on different shots and all...its only my 3rd day with it and i feel like im learning a little bit each day...very slowly haha

i know its not the same effect to edit film pictures on my crappy program on here but its the best i can do right now and would care alot more if i did these for a purpose rather than a learning hobby...i eventually want to learn a darkroom and all i just was attemptin to learn a little bit now before i go to like bucks count community college to take like a beginner class or somethign to learn a little more

oh i understand you're a true beginner which is fine. just trying to give you some of my mind lol. Fortunately i had an opportunity to take photography in high school and had to use a darkroom. its super fun. anyway, just keep messin around, you'll get it.

when you get the images put on a cd you loose the best of your quality, but unless you have a scanner or independent film scanner its in incredible hassle. Most places like that really don't care about how your images are compared to the normal snapshots. Shoot black and white, its the basis in every photo class i have ever taken. For a beginner i really liked your use of d-o-f.

wish i had that opportunity in high school...my high school kind of blew lol...i have a friend who has darkroom experience and all and can give me some helpful pointers when i get to talk to her...hopefully she can help me out too...i appreciate the critism of my shots and hopefully can make it constructive by listening and fixing my pictures. thanks

yeah i wasnt tooooo worried about how good the quality of the images or anything was...it really was a test of me using the camera to see what i could do as a true beginner...i was thinking bout starting black and white next...my sis hooked me up with alot of color rolls so i was going to use those first though...thanks for the compliment on the depth of field...i tried to get a good concept of that which is tough but i think thats the most interesting thing i was playing with on the camera so far
