ah, working from home...

I have remote access to my desktop, so I decided to work from home today as I have to drive up to the Pocono's after work. Sweet deal.

It gets better, I haven't had any work to do today... so I'm getting paid to be a bum

I doubt his boss is the best person to describe how remote access works

He won't get approval to use it unless he talks to his boss, but his IT department can tell him how it works and through whom he has to go through to get accesses set up.

web development for a company that oversees 70+ big company webstores that run on an application created by said company.

You've probably used more than one of those stores recently

Remote desktop is cool, but it's from Microsoft, so ya know lol. Not to mention, it doesn't work will all version of Windows. Another reason why XP Home edition is useless lol.

An extremely useful software is called Dameware NT Utilites. It provides remote access, but it has the option to allow the user to see what is going on, instead of locking them out and logging off their screen, as does RD. It has a ton of features that I could write a book about, so I'll stop here I guess lol, before I go on and on an on.

I don't know what you do, but when I work from home I rarely work more than 4 hrs per day. And I just VPN through the internet, a lot easier than using a remote desktop or other software packages, if your company uses VPN that is.

I use VPN to connect to the network, but then I need to use remote desktop to connect to my work computer in order to access my files/programs.

That makes sense, I use a laptop so I didn't even think about that. This way I have all my files saved on the hard drive and can still access my email and the client network through the VPN.
