The money from the community and the money from life insurance should keep her going for a year or two. If the number 1 resource of your household income was abruptly removed you'd be wanting the help too.
So, we should help them b/c he got shot? What about everyone else who gets shot every day?

How come he is any different?

Its simple, because he was a police officer. If he was some regular joe shmoe, no one would give two ****s. thats the truth, basically.

He put himself out on the line every day he went to work in Philadelphia. Between the police and the various branches of our military... I'd say they are quite a bit different than the rest of us.

Besides, in most communities when a member of someones family is lost, the community members generally help out the best they can. Philadelphia is a large community, and the officer's are going to get a larger donation merely because more people are either going to find out about it or more people would have been assisted in some way by said officer.

We literally had hundreds of people show up for my grandfather's funeral, so many in fact the priest had to stop the viewing as it went on and on for 2 hours, and there was still a line wrapped around the church to pay their respects.

From what I understand, Officer Cassidy was one of the good ones. He and his family deserve all the respect and help they can get from our community. Especially after he served it for what, 35+ years?

not really true, and rather extreme. It depends on the size of the community and how tightly knit they were into that community.

how do you know they don't? And it really is up to the family and the police force to set that stuff up. If Cassidy was shot while he was shooting back the whole thing may have been different, perhaps not as much publicity would have been given.

But he didn't have a chance. He was being informed that there was something wrong inside the DD and his head was turned. The jerk off that shot him didn't even look him in the eyes...

I guess my point is why should his family benefit when there are so many other people that dont have funds set up for them.

Especially for his family...I think money could go for so many other things... i.e. nonviolence programs, police training ,etc.

I wouldn't write any of that out just yet. The family might just turn around and donate some of that to the FOP or the local station.

CHAOS, how are they to change whats going on without funding? I'm sure they don't need your money though. And equated a broken toe to a murder... pretty immature, especially for you. And you do realize that we don't have enough cops on the street in philly b/c there isn't enough money?

yeah, its part of the job for them to get thrown into the line of fire. But they're doing it to keep your ass safe

One thing you gotta understand about the partners of cops. they're used to giving help their entire relationship. Every day their husband or wife goes to work, they're giving something back to the community. Both of them are. You just get used to doing that, even after the person has died you don't stop.

Its why we started a memorial scholarship in my grandfather's name. He never stopped giving to the community, and now my uncle has followed in his foot steps. Each year a few select students get some help with their schooling because of that. We actually just had a beef and beer for it, and we'll be having another next year.

nothing like playing flip cup with the chief of police...

i dont think they deserve any more funding, you need to work for your money right? so do they, knock the crime and violence down, then i might change my opinion. I understand that was an immature comment, but it got your attention. I also think your opinion is slightly biased because you had a family member in the force. And i understand your view, i just disagree with it. and typing some long response to this isnt going to change my views, i just dont think this one guy deserves a fund... perhaps a fund for erradicating crime is in order. just to give you more background on my views... i think we should bring back the death penalty... everyone in prison for life should be offed. they are eating up valuable tax dollars.
