Mazda 3's are pretty girly/sporty and probably get good gas mileage. I dunno anything about their reliability though. If I was going to help my girl buy a car I'd point her towards a TC, Celica, RSX, or a Civic. If you want to buy used check out www.carsense.com Nicest cheapest used cars you can find. My brother was looking at an X-type there in the low 20s.

Actually, you can get the SS in an automatic. The SS blows balls, is heavy and slow. It's a 2.4L VVT Ecotec with 171hp. The SS Supercharged, however, is a different story.

I agree that a WRX would be a waste but also as suggested a Tirburon or Eclipse would be cool. I test drove a new V6 eclipse fully loaded, my friends getting one, and actually was pretty impressed with it plus it had premium audio system which was nice it had a 10" sub in it. Anyway I know a lot of people may not like Saturns but if you buy one and just leave it stock they'll last forever. Hell I've even talked to guys with over 200,000 miles on there 93SC2s running NITROUS with NO PROBLEM!!!!! LoL anyway my suggestions are there

1. SATURN
2. Eclipse
3. Tibby
Man, you've been out of the S-series scene WAY too long.

Also, the v6 eclipse is marked as a sports car, and thus requires that high of insurance, but it won't MOVE like one, because it's a boat with only 200 some odd hp. It's heavy as hell.

Plus, if she were to get an s-series, there's too many things to look for before you buy one. You don't want a 91, 92, 95, 97 if you're looking for easy of maintanence, and you don't want those years in addition to 99-2002 if you want performance-ish, because of the head design change. The gas mileage will start to suck hardcore due to factory richness in higher miles, and you'll burn more oil once your 3rd cylinder oil ring gets stuck. (99.9% of the time, that's the first cyl to go)

As pointed out earlier by a tibby owner's boyfriend, probably not a good choice there.

If she wants reliable, get a little toyota or something like that. Great on gas mileage.

Watch VDubs though. They'll spring random oil leaks. Sometimes the rear main, sometime the crank pulley, and a few other places. Sometimes random misfires that can't be figured out even with coilpack/wire/plug replacement, but all taht aside, they're fairly reliable cars.

you have to keep a hybrid for a looooong time before you save ANYTHING in gas as compared to the premium you spent in buying it in the first place.

unless of course you drive an obscene amount of miles.. but for most people it would not pay off

Whenever we got time Miller you can meet her. I'm just keeping a tracking device on this one lol. The Prius isn't that bad when you consider it gets about 6 times better gas milage then my car.
