OT Help: My 7 year old needs an eye exam. Where's the best place to go?

My daughter was sent home from school with a note from the nurse saying she failed her eye exam at school (for the second time). It appears that she is near sighter (meaning can't see things that are far away?). I don't have any vision coverage so I'll be paying for this out of pocket. Anyone have any suggestions on a reasonable place to take my kid for an eye exam and maybe how much they think it will cost? This crap is all new to me since I've had better than 20/20 vision my whole life. Thanks!

hey i go to the vision center at walmart. lol i know it sounds nuts but i found they have the best prices for glasses and contacts and yes they are real eye doctors lol. and i think the eye exam is like 80 bucks and what ever the price of the glasses are. so i would give them a shot and see what there prices are. its worth a shot. but good luck

Won't Pearl Vision also give you an eye exam and sell you glasses?

Thanks for the help guys. It looks like the consensus is to go WalMart so that's where we will be going. Hell, maybe I can pick up some more Pringles while I'm there.

I personally go to Pearl Vision, but wouldn't recommend it without vision coverage. The eye exam can run you up to $190 there. Although, the prices on the glasses and/or contacts aren't that bad. Like everyone said, Wal*Mart is probably the best bet. They are also the best for prescriptions as well.

PS You may want to look into independent vision coverage for just your daughter. It may cost you as little as $20 a month and it will more than pay for itself over time. Kids eyes change a lot and you can look forward to buying new glasses/contacts every 1-2 years.

Not to mention how often kids lose/break their glasses.

I personaly go (well did go) to Design for Vision and they were great. I had a little incident with them but it was taken care of. My parents and sister still go to them and are happy. I think that Im going to try WalMart though. My one sister doesnt have vision coverage and went to them and was very happy as well.

do what i do. go to Wal-mart, get the $40 eye exam (contacts are $60), take them to America's Best and you can get 2 complete pairs for $69.95

http://www.twopair.com/

*edit, it includes the eye exam in the $69.95
