So, I was at work today and I found some money...what would you do? I was totally alone and no one saw me find the money (it was in the trash). It was some cash and a check made out to my work.

A. Call your boss and tell them and return the money
B. Call your boss and tell them you found a check and keep the cash
C. Keep the cash and put the check back into the trash
D. Keep it all (keep the cash and trash the check else where)
E. Other...

Some background info...in the past your boss has put marked bills in tip envelopes to make sure its being reported (is finding the money a trick?)

A and hope the boss has the same level of integrity and would give you a nice bonus of keeping the cash.

Haha...I wish...so I of course did A. I am too paranoid to not...however, my boss is a total...dick. He was like yeah I lost the money and I could totally tell it wasnt his. But I did the write thing, so thats all that counts, right? I hope that if the guest who lost it calls and asks about it, he would at least fess up to "finding it".

Depends how much cash, if its a little, turn it in. If its alot, keep it.

call the boss and return EVERYTHING that you took. Perhaps your fellow employees accidentally trashed the cash, and it would be nice if they rightfully had it returned.

I really can't believe a question like this has to be asked. I'm not angel, but when it comes down to right or wrong, taking MONEY AND A CHECK from even a trash can AT WORK and not reporting it is just wrong. There isn't much to it other than that.

It just makes you the better person than the boss. You did the right thing.

She did give her boss the money. She made this thread after she did the right thing, but wanted to see what everyone else would do.

Dude you are super antagonistic. Yes, integrity is reporting it right away, which is what I said I WOULD DO!

Why is it pathetic to hope that the boss would give you a tip? When someone does something for you that has a positive impact on your life do you just take and never give back? Are you seriously that selfish? If your friends volunteer to help you move, which most good friends would do, do you just expect them to do it because it is the right thing to do and not even offer them some beer and pizza for helping you out?

It's pathetic to think that you should be rewarded for something that anyone with 1/2 a conscience, and 1/2 a brain would do anyway. When I lost $300, I gave the person $100 back that returned it. When I found a wallet on the street with over $500 in it, credit cards, etc, I went to the house, put the wallet through the mail slot and left. I don't believe that anyone should EXPECT a reward.

If friends volunteer to help me move, how the hell is that the same as finding money and checks and returning it to rightful owner (or assuming it's the rightful owner)??? But playing your "game" of stories, yes, I would buy them food/beer because that's what I do. If "I" volunteered my time to help my friends, I would not EXPECT them to provide me with food and beer. I am there on my own good will to help them move, not to eat and drink.

Sorry, I'm not going to agree with you on this one. You can have your opinion, and that's fine. I don't think it's right to EXPECT something in return after doing the right thing though. If I were to help solve a murder and there was a $1,000,000 reward for doing so from the family, NO, I wouldn't accept it. Would you?
