i heard the stereotyping for compensation being used against larger truck owners, not corvettes, it's a small car, why would you buy it to compensate for something? i'm just trying to sway his opinion into spending his money on a car that will respond to modifications instead of getting louder rather then faster. and i didn't try to bring cobalts into this, but it did succeed the cavalier...

Actually, with an M62 supercharger or a mild Turbo addition, the 2.2's respond quite nicely. With the weight, and the fact that the 1K plus HP drag car using the 2.2 as the base motor to build on, there is alot of potential.

Yes, the Cobalt did succeed the Cavalier, with many advancements. That's neither here nor there though. The fact of the matter is, he chose to tastefully mod a Cavalier, where as you bout a Z06 that is fast from the factory, maybe he prefers the challenge of making a car that is highly underestimated fast.

maybe he's just never owned a car with potential... i have one friend that used to own a 50 trim cavalier, and i know one guy that still has a supercharged, built motor sunfire. both cars were tastefully done, but i do not think either once cranked out a 12 second time slip, so if he wants it to be fast, he's got a long road ahead of him.

I dont need to be fast to have fun. Not everyone likes to be "fast". If I can run around and get looks in something that looks decent that makes me happy. Now I would like to find a 94-96 Impala SS to mod or find a 80's iroc and drop a 5.7 in or find a 90-92 Z28 with a 5.7TPI. It's just not my priority right now. Like I said now your totally off of what you were saying calling my car rice. Well my car is not rice rather far from it. Now is it a compact tuner. Yes it's a tuner. I'm okay with that it doesn't bother me. I like the cavalier though yes it's quite under powered. 17 second quater mile times and nothing short of embarassing but hey it's all good. I'm having fun with my car and thats really all that matters to me. All the things I have added to the car are minor bolt on things that I can get my money right back out of. Only reason of doing that is to make it a lil bit more driveable everyday.

80's irocs already had 5.7's in them, and they are dogs, get an lt1 car, either an impala or an f body and you will have something worth taking to the track that won't run a 17 second quarter mile.

Even the LT1's are considered fairly slow anymore. LS1 or newer LS series is where it's at for a motor build. Hell, a bone stock 00 Z28 will run 13.3's all day long. The LT1's are more of a low 14 second car, my Cobalt runs that. lol...Actually, it did run low 14's stock, more of a mid to low 13 now....

Anyways...To each their own, his priorities isn't so much speed and power as of now, so let him enjoy 17's in the quarter and 17's on all four corners. lol...Ok, so that wasn't that funny.

lt1's are just fine for making power, throw a 200 shot on a stock motor, do suspension and make an 11 second time slip, no cobalt's gunna do that. and i'm sure if he could afford a ls1 car he wouldn't be looking at lt1 cars.

All the irocs i have seen were 5.0 305s the 86 my dad had was a 305 TPI. I am just still stuck with 2 years left of a loan on my cavalier so I'm stuck. Would I like to find a LS1 Z28 hell yeah. I can only do what I can and being unemployed at the moment taking care of my terminally ill father is more than enough of a job. Also my girlfriend and I are trying to get settled down as well which also is fun. So for only being 22 I have plenty of tasks going on. Granted thats not any sort of excuse either.

the only irocs to come with a 305 were 5 speed cars because gm did not feel the 5 speed trans and rear would hold up to the "power" the 350 was making.

Maybe not, but throw a couple bolt-ons and a 50 shot and watch the Cobalt with half the motor do reliable 12's all day long. Don't underestimate these little pocket rockets, they are about to blow your mind with what they are capable of. Just recently a couple companies have completed a Twinscrew swap, a Procharger swap is just about done (waiting on the actual Procharger to complete the build) and a couple Turbo swaps, and the majority on stock blocks making over 300whp on a 2900lb car. Beware of 12's and 11's all day long without nitrous on them. The 11 second ones may need Piston upgrades though, but still not too bad for a car that costs half what you paid.

Then again, comparing a Vette to a Cobalt is Apples to Oranges. The Cobalt guys typically think of the Vette as our bigger brother, so there is usually no disrespect coming from the decent ones. Car guys are car guys, we all mod and do things to be original and/or to stand out. It doesn't matter what you drive, just as long as it's not a Honda..lol..Just messin, had to do it. I'm GM threw and threw.

Well I have been thinkin and yes what some people have been saying makes sense. I'm gonna run it back at the track around late september early october once it cools down. If I cant get faster than a 16.5 then it's going completely back to stock engine wise. I just can't justify what I have into it for how slow it still is. I've easilly got $600 in parts on this thing to not get out of it's own way.

If it were easy and inexpensive I would be all over it lol. Although I could drop a eco in and swap the LSJ's M62 on it and have some fun that way!!!!!
