question about plasma tv

my girlfriends dad has a 60" sony plasma with a huge scratch in the screen ( shore house was broken into and they ripped the TV's off the wall ) anyways, is it possible to get the screen repaired? i ment to find out for them a while ago but forgot

How deep is the scratch you can get some toothpaste polish like colgate and q-tip and try to remove the scratch..

i'm sure you can send it to the manufacturer and they would repair/replace the screen, but it's probably not too cheap.

I would say insurance claim? If it was damaged in the burglary, shouldn't somethign like that be covered?

I dont know how plasmas work, but for our projection TV, there is a cover on the front of the screen that is just a piece of plastic. If your TV was the same way you could just replace the cover, but im not sure how the setup is on plasma tvs

they got new TV's, this one was recovered damaged but they got to keep it. the other one wasn't recovered

You'll need a new screen. The screen for that plasma is probably in the $1500 range + $3-400 per hour labor from Sony.

Eh, have fun.

The "screen" is two panes of glass with a vacuum of air inbetween to keep hazing and things like that from happening. They will need to completely dissasemble the whole TV and reassemble it with the new glass in place. It's not an easy nor cheap adventure.
