Router Problems

So I'm home from college and I just connect wirelessly to the internet with my laptop here. But I had this problem before and it just stopped by itself, but now it happens like everyday. Its hard to explain but its like the router sort of blocks our laptops. Like My sister and I can both load AIM and talk to people but we cant get onto websites. When clicking on internet explorer it acts like we arent connected to the internet. The only way to solve it is to restart the router and its jsut a PITA to do that everyday. Now I had to restart the router to get the normal home computer online. Any help would be wonderful.

Do you have any sort of custom-settings on it?

Passwords; forwarded ports; etc??

If NOT...you could always make sure you have the newest firmware (which will wipe custom settings) OR just hard-reset it so it's just as if it came from the box.

Then connect everything in order as if it were new.

And boom!

i agree with james...also you could try rebooting the modem and the router at the same time and when you do connect repair the connection.

otherwise if it keeps kicking you contact your ISP and ask them about it....usually might be a problem on their end as well.

I would try the firmware update. If you are running old firmwear could cause connectivity issues. give that a shot then trouble shoot from there.

Remember if/when you reboot your router/modem to unplug both and let them both sit for 30secs-1min.

When you plug them back in make sure you plug the modem in first and wait until all of the lights on the modem are solid and not blinking. Then plug the router in.

I had similar problem a while ago, got so bad that I couldn't do anything end after a reset. Reflashed the firmware and haven't had a problem since. Sometimes things just get randomly corrupted.

That would be helpful information as well.

Some of the Linksys routers are know to crap out every once in a while with heavy use. This ranges from some applications not being able to connect to the internet to not being able to connect to the router altogether.

A firmware upgrade would be the cheapest choice. If you feel comfortable, you can load aftermarket firmware onto the router (if your device is supported). May times the aftermarket firmware addresses issues that the firmware from the manufacturer does not.

.

incorrect! if its lettin him on AIM, the internet (ISPs) connection is working
it would either be router settings or issues or computer settings or issues
more than likely the router
