I think the point of this thread was lost... it's not about having to give excuses, it's about what some clever excuses are...

I'm at work and I have 2 hours left here... I'm about to "call out"...

my boss is "working" from home...so all I'd need to do is send her an e-mail and the secretary here an e-mail... I'm bored as hell and can barely stay awake. I'd rather be hooooome

i have a funny story related to this.

a few years ago, i got a really bad case of the flu. i kept calling out everyday for almost 2 weeks. i would just tell them that im still sick and that ill give them a call again in a few days. i finally got better and went back to work. about half way through the day, i got called into the office. they pretty much sat me down, and went on and on for about an hour about how they didnt think i was really sick and that im fired if i dont bring in a doctors note for the time that i missed. so finally they let me speak and asked if i was going to bring the note or not. i said "no, i wont, and you cant fire me for it". then my manager asked "why do you think i cant fire you for this?". my reply ... "because ive worked here close to a year, and you still haven't filed my health insurance papers, and god knows this job doesn't pay enough for me to go spend 75$ for a doctors visit. if you really want a note, then pay me 75$ from pretty cash and ill gladly go get one for you right now". .... amazingly enough ... i was not fired! hahahaha

Yeah? Hey Pete..ahh..basically I just locked a werewolf in my bathroom. It's probably going to take me all day to take it down, so ah, chalk me up for no show. If I survive this, you should give me a raise.

a couple that ive used....
The normal, "ive got something else to attend to"

"I got a jury summons"
"Im to sick"

My job now, i pretty much tell them what Im doing in advance, and schedule around that instead. Makes my life easier

i usually just tell them what i'm doing a few days in advance.

at my old job i ran their second location's store, so if i told them we had no business i could close whenever. we usually didn't have any business.

I've called out a few times, never for my full-time job unless I was actually sick. I've the "I'm to sick" excuse a million times though. Works every time.
