50 yrs - Oh what time has done

I guess might find it funny..I just found it interesting, because its true. We were having this same discussion at work the other day...

Enjoy

See what 50 years will do:

Scenario: Jack pulls into school parking lot with rifle in gun rack.

1956 - Vice Principal comes over, takes a look at Jack's rifle, goes to his car and gets his to show Jack.

2006 - School goes into lockdown, FBI called, Jack hauled off to jail and never sees his truck or gun again. Counselors called in for traumatized students and teachers.

++++++++++++++++++++++

Scenario: Johnny and Mark get into a fist fight after school.

1956 - Crowd gathers. Mark wins. Johnny and Mark shake hands and end up best friends. Nobody goes to jail, nobody arrested, nobody expelled.

2006 - Police called, SWAT team arrives, arrests Johnny and Mark. Charge them with assault, both expelled even though Johnny started it.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Scenario: Jason won't be still in class, disrupts other students.

1956 - Jason sent to office and given a good paddling by Principal. Sits still in class.

2006 - Jason given huge doses of Ritalin. Becomes a zombie. School gets extra money from state because Jason has a disability.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Scenario: Billy breaks a window in his father's car and his Dad gives him a whipping.

1956 - Billy is more careful next time, grows up normal, goes to college, and becomes a successful businessman.

2006 - Billy's Dad is arrested for child abuse. Billy removed to foster care and joins a gang. Billy's sister is told by state psychologist that she remembers being abused herself and their Dad goes to prison. Billy's mom has affair with psychologist.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Scenario: Mark gets a headache and takes some headache medicine to school.

1956 - Mark shares headache medicine with Principal out on the smoking dock.

2006 - Police called, Mark expelled from school for drug violations. Car searched for drugs and weapons.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++

Scenario: Pedro fails high school English.

1956 : Pedro goes to summer school, passes English, goes to college.

2006 : Pedro's cause is taken up by state democratic party. Newspaper articles appear nationally explaining that teaching English as a requirement for graduation is racist. ACLU files class action lawsuit against state school system and Pedro's English teacher. English banned from core curriculum. Pedro given diploma anyway but ends up mowing lawns for a living because he can't speak English.

+++++++++++++++++++++

Scenario: Johnny takes apart leftover firecrackers from the 4th of July, puts them in a model airplane paint bottle, blows up a red ant bed

1956 - Ants die.

2006 - BATF, Homeland Security, FBI called. Johnny charged with domestic terrorism, FBI investigates parents, siblings removed from home, computers confiscated, Johnny's Dad goes on a terror watch list and is never allowed to fly again.

+++++++++++++++++++++

Scenario: Johnny falls while running during recess and scrapes his knee. He is found crying by his teacher, Mary. Mary, hugs him to comfort him.

All this is sad, but very true!!! What has this dam nation come. Im not even that old, but live with my grandparents. How they explain life compared to how it is now seems so much easier back then.

So believe what you want Jersey peeps. Cause when you leave your state and people ask you where you are from, we all know you want to lie cause secretly you are embarrassed by how much it sucks.

They had much less sex and violence on tv if any, no mtv to corrupt the minds of the youth. They played Pong not grand theft auto. If you think tv and video games do not influence the youth you are very wrong.

So you are saying because you saw something on TV you need to do that? And since millions of people watch the same show and 1 person does what they saw on TV you are blaming the TV show?

Sorry, I am a broadcasting Major and we had theory classes that had discussions on this kind of thing...it simply stats....

1 out of 1000 aren't very good odds and not enough to say TV/Video games are at fault...

The real problem is parenting, 50 years ago the Dad work the Mom stayed home, now both parents work and the child gets neglected...and if the video games and TV are so bad the parents should restrict what the children see...

Sorry not trying to step on your toes i just hate the argument that TV and video games cause people to be violent...

these scenerios seem a little over the top yet they get the point across, americans are just scared, watch bowling for columbine thats a great documenteory...

1 out of every 1000?! Are you kidding me?! There are billions of people in the world. It took takes a handful of men to destroy the world and your telling me 1 out of every 1000 isn't a big deal?!

Sorry to burst your bubble but even 1 out of 1 million is too many. Once again the world doesn't consist of thousands of people, it consists of billions. Please take that into account.

As for restricting what children watch because IT IS so bad, theory's and statistics like yours throw it off

Parent: Ah well let the kid watch what he/she wants, statistics show that only 1 out of every 1000 get influenced, that's not going to be our kid

1 out of 1000 was only a example...yea there are billions of people in the world but you think every country is like the USA...I think not...

also there are billions of people but not everyone owns a tv or watches the same show/video game...

Just saying if 1000 kids play GTA and 1 acctually goes out punches a dude in the face and steals his car, you can't say he saw it in the video game and thats what made him do it...

We will agree to disagree...

But...

50 years ago.- Man kills wife. Tries to plead insanity. Judge laughs and puts him in jail for life.

Now- Man kills wife. Pleads insanity. Appeal after appeal, finally man is set free only having to go to some institution for a few months to make sure he is ok.

It's pathetic.

I agree with Mpower to an extent. I think its not so much saying the "game made me do it" its more so the fact that over the past 50 years, society has been conditioned and pushed to the envelope more and more. 50 years ago nudity was a big deal. Now you can turn on Mtv and see half naked people all day. We've become so used to sex and violence etc etc because it is presented to us in SO many more avenues than before. Video games, Internet tv, movies being the forefront. 50 years ago, if someone pissed you off, most people didn't think twice about punching them in the face...now, you have to worry about being shot in the process because that type of violence is glorified in entertainment.

Eh, i understand what you guys are saying but I think its more of just society to blame and people just need something to blame other than themselves,parents don't want to take responsability for there lack of attension for the children and the lack of parenting skill so they pick the easiest thing to blame, there has been may changes from 50 years ago not only TV/video games lifstyle has changed, people a sue happy, tons of things, but basically comes down to people in the US just live in fear and I'd say more violent because of that....
