Free Kite DIY!

Things you will need:
two pages from a newspaper
stapler and or tape
sharp knife
pencil
roll of dental floss

OK, well start by laying out the first sheet of newspaper

next we will make a fold starting from the top middle of the paper going down to the right (note: I only did the one side in the photos for ease of comprehension, feel free to do both sides at once!)

now we will make another fold to form the right "wing" notice that this fold follows the same angle of the first overlapping it by a few inches, also the bottom right corner of the paper will cross the center of the paper slightly

tape or staple the top point of the last fold and make a verticle fold finishing the "wing"

now open the wing back up and grab the tail that was left from the bottom right corner of the paper, tape or staple this to the leading edge of the wing so that the tail forms a slight cone shape oriented like this : V we do this so that wind will get stuck in the cone and inflate it adding vertical structural stability for our kite

here you can see both sides completed

now we need to add horizontal rigidity to our kite, take your pencil and roll it up in the triangle left at the top of the kite. tape or staple in place

now we are going to cut a small rectangle in the lower center of the kite. this gives the kite stability in higher winds as well as pushes it to a higher angle of attack

next we are going to make the bridle, grab your floss!

squeeze the front of the box and pry out the plastic carrier

now you should have the floss spool loose, cut out a peice about the length of your arm from shoulder to hand. now punch holes in the corners of the wings and tie the string to both holes. use some tape or staples to secure it and make sure the paper wont rip

now grab your newly mounted bridle in the middle and tie a simple overhand knot leaving a loop in the center, this is where you will tie your string when you go to fly the kite

to make the tails cut four narrow horizontal strips from the second sheet of paper tape two of each together and attach to the bottom corners of the kite with staples

now slide your spool of floss over a pen, marker, or similar item and tie the end to the loop on the kite's bridle. it is now ready to fly!

enjoy!

Nice kite, if you are like me and never could get a homemade kite to work, these wouldn't be so bad at $5. Then again there are cheaper kites available like this one.
