I’ll say this… both cars’ abilities go far beyond that of the drivers limitations if only driven on the street. Drag racing doesn’t show their strengths either. These cars must be driven on a road course to bring out their true potential, and even then, a very skilled driver is needed to show the strengths and weaknesses between the EVO and the STI. Usually, the EVO bests its' competitor on the road course. However, on the street, the differences between the two cars are nil. I drive “Philly Boy’s” car on a regular basis and get a chance to feel what the Subie has to offer and it’s a fantastic automobile. I love his car equally as I do mine, however, differently. My reasoning for purchasing the EVO was with the intent of periodically, getting on a race track and chasing down a GT3. I wanted super car like handling, braking, power and performance. Does this now mean the EVO is a “better” car then the STI… my answer would be no. “Better” is a relative term… it’s like asking if Matter is better than Anti-Matter? The Universe has both for a reason… so I’ll leave it for the audience to decide.Quote:
And for those people saying that both cars are overrated… please get a clue. You cannot truly appreciate these cars from reading a magazine, or taking a 10 minute test drive at a dealership. You’ve gotta own one and drive it everyday. I still own my modded Honda Accord, and everytime I get back into the EVO, I am reminded just how phenomenal these little AWD Ferrari chasers truly are. They are light years ahead of most cars. The EVO and STI overrated… yeah, right. Sorry, my post is long… but I had to through that in the pile.

And I agree this will be an on-going debate. The cars are very close to a certain extent, overall. I feel there is nothing wrong with a good debate. Unfortunately, this is a predominantly subie board where a good amount of subie owners are taking offense and instead of playing nicely are reverting to name calling. The problem I see is that each car has pros and cons but neither side is really accepting them completely. I learned a lot from this debate cause I have never owned either an Evo or an STI. I use to own a WRX but obviously it's not in the same league as either car. I do appreciate the insight into these cars by their owners, which to me, is much better than anything written in a magazine.

Everybody has their own preference of car. Every car has their ups and downs. This argument is just like fighting with domestic owners over what kind of car is better a domestic or an import. These topics are like beating a dead horse. But, as a person who owns 3 DSM's I say GO EVO's!!! hehe

Handling is definitely sharper in the EVO and the throttle is much more responsive. On the street neither one of us would be able to pull away, however, if we were on a road course, eventually the EVO would show its’ strengths. The EVO is a sharper instrument and can make surgical incisions more precisely. It feels very athletic and extremely nimble. On the flip side, when behind the wheel of Philly Boys car, you get the sense it’s a very muscular car. I never get tired of the exhaust note and the turbo sounds like that of a tractor-trailer. You finally have these machines that you’ve seen in the Option and Best Motoring DVDs and it a great thing. They live up to the expectations. The most fun I have is when he and I swap cars. We get to see each one in action from a third perspective. When you’re in these cars you forget how “mortal” all other passenger vehicles are. But to see my car laying waste to an onramp really puts me at awe. It’s basically like this… the WRX is more “Porsche-like” and the EVO is more “Ferrari-like.” One car rockets you to extreme speeds with the feel of muscle, the other gets you their with delicate finesse. They accomplish the same goal differently. Oh, I’m only missing cams at this point… and I’m gonna remedy that problem very shortly!
