pictures of my current project. (almost done)

Well when i first got my GSR i took the backseats out and gutted the hatch free of everything except the ugly sound deadening (sp) and plastics. well it came to the point when i needed to change the battery and I was tired of looking at the hatch the way it was. So for those who dont know the Optima red top doesnt fit in the stock position under the hood, so i mocked up my own relocation kit with 2 gauge wire and made my own holder for the battery built in with the false floor i put in to give the car a cleaner look in the rear and still able to do a three peice c-pillar bar when it comes in. I used 1/4 inch plywood for a base board under the stock rear carpeting for now but some time within the next week ill be finishing it with some black carpeting you would use for subwoofer boxes. Anyway i took some pics before it started raining too hard. Its still a work in progress and ill update it later when i finish it.

Why did you pull the rear seats though? they weigh like 5 lbs they arent heavy at all. I have nothing in the back of mine but my rear window or something is leaking. But the battery mount looks good

Lj does the board go all the way past where the rear seats go? And Definatley wrap that board the sound deadining carpet actually weighs a pretty good amount. They way you have it now can you hear everything? With mine I hear anything on the road and the atenna going up is really anoying.

Bms: 5 lbs isnt alot, since im pretty sure 100lbs is a 10th of a second off the 1/4 mile time. So that 5 lbs is what...a 200th of a second off a quater mile time.

and to further his point you cant get to a total of 100lbs lighter untill you pass 5lbs, every pound counts

Having the battery on the interior is rather smart for a theft deterrant.

Although....be careful of battery acid.

Make sure you cover that battery when you go to the drag strip. You need a rear mounted battery kill switch if your battery is relocated. Plus it has to be held in a battery box

Nice job. Is the sound deadening still in? If it is...why? Get some liquid nitrogen and remove it. I stopped weighing mine when I took it out after 6 pounds.

Also, you should consider moving the battery to the very rear, where it will help offset all the weight in the front of the car and allow you to put your seats back in if you ever need to.

i took the rear seats out because i dont like driving people arround (even though there in mint). its kinda a pet peeve of mine when someones like come on give me a ride when i already have some one in the car and they use that backseat being empty for a reason for me to give em a ride. And also people cant ask me to pick more then just one of them up cause its not possible lol. i mean you can walk on the false floor but i wont DRIVE with someone back there lol. also you said there only about 5 lbs well the 1/4 inch false floor is only about 7lbs over all. so i guess its not much of a difference just i dont have to drive more then one.

The board goes til the base of the bottom seat meets the carpet in length then im installing a peice of board that goes up from the floor and squares off the box. it loks clean that way. also im not using sound deadening carpet im just using simple carpet that tey use on sub boxes. the stuff im lookin at now isnt heavy at all and quite light and thin. The way i have it now it kinda quieted (sp) it down alot. i dont hear any rattles, bumps arent as loud as they were with an open hatch like before, and exhaust note is deffinately quieter and thats a plus for me beings right not im running no cat straigh 2.5/2.75 in header back which is loud as piss at times. Not to mention on the high way with my exhaust and typer trans is constant loudness. Oh and the antenna noise doesnt happen with me because if you look closely i dont have a head unit lol. damn theives! but when i do put on in im not going to connect the antenna wire for that fact. also the antenna looks like a deep sea fishing rod at full extension on the highway lol

Thanx. the sound deadening is still in. ive had thoughts of removing it before but im afraid of how much louder it might make it with the exhaust setup on it now. Ive done the dry ice method before on a frends car but never weighed the amount we took out but i heard its quite a good amount of weight. I had the battery in the rear of the car up until the false floor because the battery is too tall for the floor and doesnt hide beneath like id like it too. Im not too worried about the backseats not being there i dont plan on puttin them in anytime soon.

Can always just pull the antenna (OMG weight reduction!) and get a cap for it. I saw on H-T someone bought a nice antenna that sits flat on the inside of the hatch window, sort of like the defrosters streaks. It looks real clean and supposedly gets real good reception and isnt really expensive

If you need help with the kill switch Lj let me know. Usually people put the battery all the way to the back though, but we will figure something out.

Is that plywood JDM or just regular Home Depot wood. I wouldn't count 5lbs as much weight personally, but it all adds up.
