scary places in PA?

My friends and I have been on a ghost kick lately and we're looking for some scary places to check out in southeastern PA. The community center we work out at is supposedly haunted and tonight the janitor left the door that seperates the weight room from the rest of the place open so we figured we'd check the place out at night. There's supposed to be a sub-basement with tunnels that run for miles to a nearby river which were used as part of the underground railroad at one point in time. Anyway we were looking around for a while and conluded that the boarded up door we discovered on the first floor must lead to the basement. Not wanting to break into anything, we set our sites on the attic, supposedly where a former resident of the place died. So we end up back in the hallway near where the boarded up basement door was. As I'm slowly leading the way up the steps I look back towards my friends and notice that the door we had walked through and left open like 10 minutes before was slowly starting to close behind us. So we quick jump down the steps and grab it just before it locks us in. That door was open for 10 minutes without even moving, but it closes behind us....weird. It turned out that attic was locked so we next we headed into the locker room. There's this one door with no knob or handle, just a key hole. So my one friend pounds on it a few times for whatever reason, but then the damn thing started to slowly open... We quick tried to grab it once the shock wore off, but it closed tight and locked just before I could get my hands on it. So we didn't see any ghosts or things like that, just had a couple freaky experiences. Anyway now were hooked and really wanna go check out some more creepy places where we can roam around freely. Anyone know any good spots besides Pennhurst?

Pick up a 'Weird Pennsylvania' or 'Weird New Jersey' book. They both have some good places to check out.

If you want to take a ride, over in Medford NJ they do "Jersy Devil" trips into the pine barrans. I noticed it while I was reading our local sales & events paper. I will probably do it this year seeing how come March I will be living in Florida.

I dont know if this place is the same, but ive heard of a place (also a covered bridge) where you turn your head lights off and drive through it at night and when you emarge the other side of the bridge there are baby hand prints on the sides of the car. Ill try to find the name of it.

Come to chester county, there is a stone railway underpass near my house that has a legend that a woman hung herself there and it has been haunted ever since. Its one of those tunnels that is so dark that even in the day you have to put your lights on. Some people say the rope she hung herself with is still there....

you guys should camp near it and check it out.

It's referred to as "Cry Baby Bridge." I couple of people I used to work with back in HS claimed that they went there and you can hear babies crying (tf???). When they left, they claimed to have found baby hand prints on their bumpers.

I heard a rumor that one of these local shut down looney bins has pressure operated switches on the inside of cells that close and lock doors behind you. More specifically, that the state gov't goes in and cleans out bodies annually.

I havent heard anything about that, but that would suck. Ive heard stories of people being killed but it was generally by one of the bums who the happened to walk in on.

done it numerous times and still havn't seen or heard anything. Ever been on sawmill road? "The gates of hell"...? Its creepy back there. One day me and a friend were in another friends truck bed on halloween goin down that road, and it was SCARY! I mean like...wolves howling and sh*t. And I've heard stories about the old mansion that is now torn down, like kids would go up there, and get stoned thrown at them, and hear little kids laughing and stuff.

'Cry Baby Bridge' is the Van Sant covered bridge in NoHope. It was fun back when I was in high school, but now the area is toooo developed.

There are several 'gravity hills'. The one that I tried years ago is on Holicong Road near Lower Mountain Road? I think... It works, but it is just an illusion. The road is actually flat, but for some strange reason, it appears to be a slight decline no matter what direction you travel. There were always rumors of some satanic church in that area.

Careful if you go out to Byberry. There are state-employed security guards stationed there 24 hours a day, and they do regular patrols with some serious spotlights.

Also, the threat of getting your ass busted is nothing compared to sucking down some of the asbestos they've got in the place. There are no windows in the buildings anymore, so they become wind tunnels which stir up all the crap and it rockets through the places. The security guards who kicked me out said that on sunny days, you can see the dust blasting out the windows. Unsavory.
