Anytime.

Yep - with any car comes compromise with something so making a one-size fits all vehicle is impossible. I think the Golf platform does about as good of a job at that as possible but if you want a 911 and a truck... well... you're buying two specific vehicles. Likewise if you want a heavy track duty car, not the right platform IMO.

Before I go with a larger brake kit on the car (since this is supposed to be an OEM+ build), I snagged a brake master cylinder brace from ECS.

It will take out some of the firewall flex with the master cylinder when you hit the brake pedal, hopefully will reduce some of the pedal travel required to get brake response.

I popped the hood and had my wife look at the master cylinder while I used the brake pedal, she said it was definitely moving, so let's give this $99 part a try.

Brake Master Cylinder Brace was my favorite mod on my BRZ... I did one on the RX-8 specifically because of that experience.

I hope it helps your qualms with the brakes!

Awesome! I remember doing it on my old STi, made a nice difference. Now I just need to get under the hood and start the work.

I was bored today and decided to take a waiver on this:

https://www.goapr.com/blog/post/apr_...88_gen_3_mqb_/

Also got their turbo inlet...I have the silicon piping from years back to mate the two pieces.

Aside from warranty, the second largest impediment to getting a tune for this car has to be the factory brakes.

Suspension/Chassis and Powertrain are up for it, but the brakes definitely are not.

The dilemma has been - do I get rid of the Clubsport S brake parts I put on last year just for this? None of this was cheap. It would also move me out of the OEM+ place the car has occupied.

Maybe a year 4 or 5 decision.

What's wrong with the brakes that you're going to solve with something else? Master cylinder brace installed yet?

Response mainly. Hit the pedal and there's a delay to anything happening. The brace should help with it but we'll see.

Going in for the 30k service on the R this weekend. It has just 25k miles on it to date.

All fluids, inspection, DSG service. All covered under the maintenance plan. Once that's done, I'll open up the intake mods and do the brake master cylinder brace.

30k service done. Two more pre-paid services left for 40 and 50k.

Oil, brake fluid, tire rotation, road force balance, new wipers and filters.

The brakes now work better than ever with the fresh fluid and bleed. So much better!

Will put on the intake this weekend and have some fun.

Going on a mountain drive this weekend, excited to see the capabilities of the car outside the city.

Also - some great news: Unlike every single other brake upgrade offering, VW's upgraded front brakes from the mk8 R will bolt up to the mk7.5R and not require any spacers or aftermarket wheels to work.

This is huge as I have not wanted to run spacers or aftermarket wheels on my car. Now I have an OEM upgrade that is plug and play.

I can get them powdercoated to match the performance pack caliper plate too. So... 3 years later, the brakes problem might finally be nearing an end.

A friend with his 2007 Cayman S on Konis, H&R springs and summer rubber came out to drive with me to Little Switzerland today here in NC. (I love it here)

My R has the full Clubsport S chassis and brake upgrades with strut tower bracing front and rear with a 24mm RSB on 18x7.5 Pretorias with Continental all seasons.

While the R *might* have a slight edge in acceleration, that’s about where it ends.

My brakes couldn’t keep up and the factory DCC just couldn’t match the flatness of the Koni equipped Cayman.

My sidewalls were also not made for this kind of road.

Felt like a minivan compared to the Cayman on these roads. I couldn’t keep up.

Fun as hell. Will swap on the 19’s when we go back in March to see how it’ll do with summer rubber

Glad you had tons of fun even on non-summers!

When are the brake upgrades happening?

Yeah, I definitely didn't drive with a ton of confidence as this was my first real outing with the R outside of the city and highway.

The shop is in Romania and they're waiting on the brake discs to arrive so that they can make the kits. Right now they only have the calipers and pads. I believe they said by March for the full kit to be available, then 50 euro for the powdercoating I want.

I've asked that the calipers are powdercoated black to look identical to my Performance Pack calipers with the silver plate and black R logo on them.

Current parts have just been sitting on my work bench in the garage:
- APR intake
- Racingline Turbo Inlet Hose
- APR Turbo Inlet Pipe
- BFG DSG Nappa leather golf ball shifter
- Rear USB ports
- Brake master cylinder brace

Also have the ali express turbo inlet hose and pipe sitting in the cabinet too.

19" Pretorias and tires hanging on the wall shelf.

The R just doesn't *need* more power.
