Dave's M3.

Thanks, it really wasn't that bad. I think the m3 badge was $40. I could have gotten it cheaper off eBay. The BMW badge was $23, but there are several available so to get the size right I ordered from the dealer too.

Pedal covers were more than $1, but not much.

The parts for my car aren't expensive, I think it's the labor rates and part prices charged at some dealerships that scares people away. On average, I pay less for parts for this car than I did for the Subaru or Mitsubishi. You just gotta buy online.

Something I'm going to ask about today at the dealer is how much of a discount being in the BMW CCA gets me on parts and service. My scheduled oil change is $140 currently and that's actually a great price since the oil and filter itself is $102 before shipping. (Oil changes are at longer intervals to balance the cost out).

Mods excluded. Those are expensive, as you can probably tell by this build so far. If compared to other cars, the bang for the buck isn't there (Evo especially), but if you want to build the best M3 for your own desire, then it's worth it in the end.

Thank you, I really appreciate it. I know this may not be the most exciting journal on here.

At the dealership and they wanted me to trade it in for a 2 series....lolz

Coolant was a tiny bit low, no leaks. They topped it off and pressurized the system to cancel the light. Rest of the car checked out great mechanically and the oils changed.

Nothing quite like going into a BMW dealer and walk out without any problems found.

No leaks, hmm. Sounds like the BRZ. Coolant mysteriously disappears for a while for some buyers, but my coolant level hasn't moved at all.

lol @ trading it for a 2 series. Talk about a downgrade.

Haha yes!

This weekend I had some free time. Around slow turns, the car had been making a rubbing noise, which I knew wasn't from the tires since the ride height isn't low enough. Visual inspection of the tires proved that, so I took the car to the dealer to have the rear dif fluid flushed and replaced. While there, I struck up a convo with the service writers, mine owned an E30 and the other owned an E39 M5. They then hooked me up with employee pricing and cut the labor rate in half. I walked out of there with estimates for the front bumper, a door ding, a rear bumper ding, the rear dif flushed and replaced with BMW oil and XM booster and the car detailed for $233. $42.50 of which was actual labor.

Safe to say I've found my new dealer in Charlotte! The one in Greensboro was awesome, but 94 miles away from here so not worth the drive.

Rest of the car checked out great like usual. A few people were amazed at the condition the car was in.

Today, I replaced the windshield cowl on the car with a new one. The old one had faded and the rubber was splitting and cracking. Took me a little over an hour after fighting with some retaining clips on the wiper arms. Looks so good now, can't even see the tray anymore.

The next item to be replaced is the hood vent itself. That should be a little bit easier, it looks to be clipped in entirely.

Yup! Worked like a charm.

Getting to the point where i've read enough about the car to be confident in self-diagnosis of problems.

I'll get some pictures this weekend after I install the new hood vent. Maybe I'll install the CSL diffuser while I'm at it too....

Ordered some audio components tonight.

The nav system/headunit in the car is over 10 years old and the interface looks every bit of it.

Ordered the AVIN//2 headunit and BSW stage 1 mid-range door speaker upgrade for the car.

http://www.bavsound.com/Stage-One/

https://avinusa.com/bmw-e46-avant2-f...on-system.html

capacitive touch display, bluetooth streaming, google maps, yada yada...i'm in.

No more DVD-based scroll knob input system with software from 2007

Speakers are in. Going to hold off on the install until I get the full stage 1 setup.

Avin will get here later this month, on a prebuy for the latest version with a faster CPU and more ram.

Dropping the car off at the paint shop Monday to have the front bumper repaired and resprayed along with the foglights and bumper reflectors put in too. I may also have the sunroof tray clips put in while it's there all week. They offered to remove scuffs from my wheels but I'm looking at replacing them with genuine BMW ZCP wheels and fresh pilot super sports next summer.

What else.... ;)

Picked the car up from the dealer:

1). Bumper wasn't repainted due to them not feeling comfortable with providing a quality enough paint job for my car.

2.) foglights are junk. They couldn't install them either so aftermarket trash gets the dumpster. Will order OEM replacements

3.) sunroof tray clips replaced. Works beautifully now. Have needed this done since I bought the car!

4.) lower steering wheel trim piece replaced. Will post pics.

On my way out of the dealership, my CEL popped on for the first time since I replaced the catalytic converters in 2012. They're now reading the code to see what the issue is.

Best part about all this is that they charge $75 an hour and cut labor times in half to keep me happy. Dirt cheap for a dealer.

While waiting in the waiting room and chugging complimentary drinks down, I've ordered CSL headers and cats from the Uk for $100 less than what headers alone cost from the midrange vendors. Haha. Steal!!

Don't know how I've missed this, but I dig! E46 M cars are such solid, well put together machines. I need more S54 in my life.

You have a very nice dealer

Your car is gorgeous. I'm confused why you're not in the C&C show (I assume you're not based on the stupid truck and assorted "normal" vehicles in the background)

So far so good There's a good Indy shop here too, but I like free food and drinks and a waiting area....go figure.

THANK YOU!! Well, I got there kind of late that morning...the BMW area was already filled. There isn't a set location or area where everyone parks to my knowledge but the place was packed so I took a spot when I found it.

I have much more in store but have been directing funds to another hobby of mine. Here's a list of things to be installed yet:

--Turner Power Pulley set
--CSL headers and cats
--BSW Speakers
--AVIN2 head unit
--Hood vent grill
--CSL rear diffuser
--Misc. window seals

The codes were read and they ended up being phantom codes that have no BMW solution for them...they are rare and go away. Nothing on the car is bad to drive the CEL, so I'm chalking it up to a freak incidence like the techs were telling me.

What else...

I still want a CSL airbox. Dinan throttle bodies and a tune.

I still want 3.91 rear axle ratio ring and pinion

I still want authentic ZCP wheels

I still want the CSL trunk

I still want that front bumper repainted and new foglights.

Straight from the UK, these are the headers and cats that came on the CSL.

Factory 200-cell cats located after the manifolds instead of inside the manifold.

Thanks! It's been awhile coming to address the headers. An airbox, tune and 3.91's will be next.

Shrick 288 cams someday with headwork.

Well, fitment will be as good as it gets...reliability will be better than the ebay cheapies and some of the mid-range stuff (AP stuff has split at the welds on one guys car).

The reason for going with the CSL headers is that as more dynos are released, we're seeing maybe a 5% peak power difference between the european headers and the Super Sprint $2,300 header setup and most of those gains could be coming from the cats themselves.

In terms of gains vs. AP, SGT, etc. (basically all the same stuff)...should be the same according to CPI. If there's a 1% delta, I don't care. Simply won't matter.

So for absolute PEAK N/A gains, guys can run Super Sprint, but If I can get 95-98% of those gains for a fourth of the cost with OEM parts...then I'll go OEM.

Plus, with pulleys, an airbox and a tune those deltas can be pretty insignificant overall.
