The Adventures of the Z31 Camaro Grand and Dundy the Outback
I have been on TST for about a year but have not really gotten really involved in it--merely spectated. 1984 Nissan 300ZX NA GLL 2+2 ![]() -Built entirely in-house -For leisure -NA2T -The Mods: Engine Bay: -Poly engine mounts and steering rack bushings -Custom-mounted Autometer boost gauge -Custom I/C setup w/ Turbo XS BOV and CX Racing I/C -Custom intake w/ AEM Dry-Flow filter -DXD Southbend Racing Stage 2 Clutch -Bypassed coolant lines -Idle, cold-start, and emissions deletes -Ported turbo elbow -MBC -Awesome stickers -Taurus E-fan conversion -'85 Turbo radiator -Maxima alternator -no exhaust, turbo-back Interior: -Touge Factory Acrylic Floral shift-knob -gutted interior -rust holes -custom-mounted Autometer boost gauge Exterior: -hatch louvers -rust Future Plans: -Aussie-spec paint-scheme (black paint below bumper molds) -custom headlights and fog-lights (one-piece headlight) -programmable ECU -Grant steering wheel -VIP wheels :P -Stance coilovers -rust repair -CM Performance exhaust -headlight covers *Z!lla's under the operating table atm because I cooked a rear-main seal (I apparently did not lubricate the inner lip of the thing before installation). She is also misfiring a bit, running rich, and leaking a teensy weensy bit of oil from cyl 3; all those can wait

I've Returned!
Whole lotta updates on the Z. She is running, purrs like a kitten, rumbles like a MOFO (getting used to the poly mounts), and pulls hard! Current issues right now are still rust and her burning oil. I have switched to thicker, 10W-40 high mileage oil with Engine Restore formula (I don't have money to fully rebuild the engine of a car I will barely be driving).
Things that have changed: -JEGS fuel pressure gauge -installed FICD with custom fitting on a silicone coupler (that's right) -2.5" CM Performance Aluminized Exhaust (no cat' or muffler) -installed original heater -new fuel level sender coming in the mail -timing cover installed -NGK V-power 'plugs -new exhaust valve stem seals |

It is either aged valve stem seals, blown oil seal in the turbo, or worn piston rings. I noticed oil condensing around exhaust ports 5 & 6 and without much time, I decided to replace just those two seals (yep, not even half the seals, I know
As for the turbo being responsible--I had it professionally rebuilt so I am ruling it out (unless accidentally racing the engine past 4k rpm upon start up, but letting the car idle after that can damage a rebuilt turbo). And for worn piston rings... . I could imagine it being the issue...hence the Engine Restore and thicker engine oil.

its an adhesion agents that in time is supposed to fill in the voids and hatches in the cylinder walls and increase compression. It's a clogging adhesion, not as much as a stop leak but it's meant to stick.

Nice z man. I have had a ton of these. My current one is making 478 whp on a stock na engine(with big turbo). I would change all the valve stem seals and do a compression test and see where the problem is. Also depending on the boost you are running and if u pluged the egr and pcv setup u might be building crank case pressure. Usually the exhaust valve seals wear out first.

If so, having the car run as much as possible is best...all the material in the formula will more likely bond to the cylinder walls as desired while skipping over the feed line.

I shall fix those issues when I have the time and extra money
Say, I heard that valve stem seals are the culprit only when the engine smokes while its cold...the seals are supposed to swell up at higher temperatures, closing up cracks and warps. If not necessarily true, I am SSOOO going to get at the rest of the stem seals. |
