Parking Ticket that doesn't belong to me

Hello,

Today I recieved (well, my dad received, as the car is registered in his name) a Failure to Appear notice from Newark, NJ on a parking ticket that wasn't paid.

Problem is, I was never in Newark, nor have I gotten a parking ticket. It has the correct license plate that belongs to my car, but when we looked it up online it said it belonged to a Nissan (I drive a Saturn).

The date in question was April 5, at 1:29 PM, which was a Thursday. Thursdays for my spring semester, I was in class from 8:00 AM to 12:45 PM, then went basically right to work from there. Newark is about an hour and a half from me, and I don't think I've ever driven there since I've gotten my license.

I did a Google Street View to give myself the benefit of a doubt that maybe I was there and I forgot, but I do not recognize the area at all, it was basically right in the middle of a neighborhood.

So basically what I'm asking is, how would we go about proving that this was not us? They have my license plate number, but it's clearly not my car. I really don't want to pay a fine for someone else's mistake.

Do you have a court date or anything? If not, get one then bring all your paperwork with you. Including class schedule and if you can, some sort of proof stating you were there. Not sure what the issue is here, could be some sort of clerical error or something. Don't ignore this though, some towns are known to hire companies that essentially attack your credit (or in this case, your dads credit) for unpaid tickets and fines.

A hassle? Yes. Just explain everything to the Judge and hopefully he or she can help you out.
