It's not a mirror 1:1 copy of the comic, loosely based on. If you read the comics, the show is still surprising and fun to watch because it is in fact different.

That is what I like about it. It has the general plot of the comic, but not the characters. I honestly do not think Carl's mom is going to die in the prison. Then again, I did not see Shane going the way he did.
