Mike it happens, that is why I always do a run down of my gun before I holster up. I drop the mag clear the chamber, test functionality (dry fire), reload, rack and even make a fist and tap it on the back of the slide to make sure that B*tch is in battery...

Even when I am in a rush it takes under a min to do a quick weapons check and could save your life, its so embedded into my routine. There will be times throughout the day I will do a press check at home and then even re hit my slide forward as i would my original weapons check at the beginning of the day.

You're definitely not blowing it out of proportion, I would feel the same way...

Ive come a long, long way from that first trip to the range with you guys. You would be so proud

Thanks for posting the story, because it is a great story to learn from and take things away from...

I know you wont let it happen again ;)

Classic tomorrow morning anyone? Got the 19 back from Glock in exactly a week, and the general word on the boards after a collective of about 2000 rounds on there, no shells to the face, so I'm excited to shoot it.

If it's on my hip, it's got a round in the chamber. The moment I take off the gun for the night or any other extended period of time, I will clear it no matter what. When I'm in my house I almost always change clothes and I lounge, I don't stay fully dressed with the gun on my hip. If I'm going to be taking off the gun and handling it and the holster while I move around the house, I certainly don't want it loaded. Maybe if I lived by myself or if the holster I used had some sort of retention then I'd always leave it loaded, but that's not the case. For my particular situation, while the gun is not on my body it's simply not reasonable to leave the round in the chamber.

I always have a round in the camber even at home...hell I carry at home most of the time...

Only time I unload is to do a weapons check, clean, or practice drills at home

I'm in a similar situation. Most of the time when I get home, I go to my room, clear it, check it, then put it away. But even if I didn't have a roommate now (didn't at the time of the accident), I would still clear it. I understand your reasons for keeping one chambered, but to me, a loaded gun in the house is asking for trouble.

Quite often I do carry at home (a lot more recently now that I have the new holster and gun belt- trying to break them in as fast as possible). But even when doing that, I ALWAYS clear the chamber of my carry round. Just seems safer.

I carry as I trained myself, I carry with one in the chamber everywhere I go because I trained to draw and shoot, not draw rack shoot..

So at home I don't carry any differently because it someone busted down my door armed my reaction would be draw shoot...not draw rack shoot since I believe wasted movement is wasted time

I don't have kids running around the house or younger siblings..

For majority of situations I don't see how it would be less safe carrying unloaded or loaded in your house or even at night in the nightstand...

That's just my thought on it, given my situations

Does re-chambering rounds hurt them before they are fired? I also unload one at night but I re-chamber it in the morning, I read somewhere this can wear the round down.

Yes you can. Happen to my father a few years back, when he cleared the chamber the round came apart, bullet stayed in the barrel shell came out and powder went every where. I try to rotate rounds so this doesn't happen.

Ya, I also rotate rounds...The chances of it happen are slim, but why take that chance?

I snapped a quick picture of some of the upgrades I got this weekend for my AR.

Eotech 512 w/ Accucam QD Mount
Aimex 3x Magnifier w/ Flip to Side Mount
Houge Pistol Grip
Magpul MBUS
Magpul ASAP
Badger Ordinance Tactical Latch

Still waiting on:
Magpul MOE MVG Vertical Grip
Magpul UBR Stock
Magpul B.A.D

Next Step is to look into a light system, possibly surefire...and then i will be done with this one...

I am not completely happy about the placement of the optics on the rail, and i had to modify my front MagPul MBUS sight to fit. I had to sand it down, but you can not even tell (pro job ;) ) ha. I really like the flip to side magnifier, but going to some long range this weekend to stretch her legs. If i can get good shoots from a few hundred yards without, I might ditch it.

I was originally going to go with the Eotech 3x magnifier, however, after reviews and seeing one myself, I decided against it. The eotech magnifier really seemed to distort the recticle and didnt look that great for the price. I really liked Aimpoints new one, however, thats like 800 bucks. I also didnt want to buy some cheapy 75 dollar one offline. SOOO i choose a middle ground and picked up what seems to be pretty solid and decent so far.

Excited for the new stock, however, its pretty heavy...

atlas..

I know its not as nice as most of yours on here, but im learning, training, and growing..

I've got a magazine of ammo +1 that I've been carrying for about 5 months now, probbably shouldn't have kept it that long. I've probbably rechambered most of the rounds about 10 times, so I should probably set them aside.

I would make it a habit to use my carry ammo (as in the ammo that is in the mags I carry) once a month. It IS more expensive but certain SD ammo fires differently than range ammo and I like to stay on top of that ish. Plus a box of hornady CD or whatever I am carrying isnt THAT expensive and I would prefer to have fresh rounds monthly than go 5 months reloading and re-racking the same ammo. Just my practice, I am sure everyone is different.

I will I ordered the other stuff from midway tonight but not the stock because I'm still undecided..

The ubr is pretty heavy and with my optic setup now the gun packed on some pounds..I like the the functionality of the ubr though..

So 2 more choices and I'm done..stock and light system

As you can see decided to stay all black

Also ordered some pmags

ok so for light get the streamlight STRION led and the Daniel defense side mount. Its perfect because you can manipulate it with your thumb from the hand on the fore grip and doesnt cost as much as one of the streamlight lights that is incorporated into the foregrip... plus it strobes which is awesome and is rechargeable (i actually have an extra one you can have if i can find it, you just need to buy a charger for it which I think are like... 30 bucks on ebay)

::edit::

so youll need:

https://danieldefense.com/mounts-1/o...ght-mount.html

and this: (which i will give you)

http://www.amazon.com/Streamlight-74...ion/B001VVAANO

and youll be golden
