When your a tourist attraction it's ridiculous to do that period, and being an old Italian from south Philly chances are he was racist. Is that racist?

did his family speak english when they arrived? i cant comment on that because i dont know but im more than willing to bet that they learned the language once they were here. i think you fail to realize the point of that sign, which is for people that come here and refuse to learn the language but want everything changed for them because they refuse to change.

your entitled to your opinion, but your still an asshole
It's "You're"... As in "You're the asshole with a misguided opinion of me".

Why are you salty? Dont you know TST is a community of love?

My cousin Marco came over from Italy last winter and immediately wanted a Philly steak. I took him to Pat's because he is the original that did it first, without the eye candy. Moreover, he wouldn’t get the first impression that America is intolerant of other cultures...

This world is full of ignorant people... It's a big deal when someone representing American's do it... Yes, it goes for Italian Americans too....

I agree, speak English or order somewhere else. If your forced to, you would be amazed what you can learn in a month or 2.

All I know is we shouldn't have to press 1 for English...... This is America. We speak American here

My dad came from Greece. He learned how to speak English in less then a year and speaks perfect English now. I agree there's people who just don't wanna learn it and that's not right.
I fail to see how he was a racist ? He didn't discriminate. Against anyone or refuse service. He said he had the right but never did.
He's helped out the community around there so much donating money.

And obviously he's doing something right because every time I go there the line is 10 times longer then the one for pats.

As a whole, we're not intolerant of other cultures at all. What we are (or at least should be) intolerant of is people coming here and trying to act like we are the ones who are supposed to adapt to them. That's bassackwards.

There's absolutely no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. No "Italian-American, African-American, Latin-American" etc. You're simply "American" or you're not and you don't belong here.

So,if you go to japan and speak english to older japanese people and they call you an outsider and spit on you, then they're just being racist and rude right? Cause we went to their country and spoke english, they should know it.

If your cousin Marco can't comprehend the need to speak English over Italian in America, well there's more problems then just the language barrier. Same thing if I were in Italy. I would not expect them to understand my guttural english.

And now Italians are not the best example, as many are not as open minded as you'd prefer. As I understand it most Italians can not accept Sicilian's as Italians. Were all one big family, huh?

As far as learning English and adapting to this country, its not different than folks going to a Hispanic shop and not know what Goya is along with Gandules on the label... Some are so ignorant that they don't bother turning the can over and reading it in English "Goya, Green Pigeon Beans" We Hispanics did you a favor for you English speaking Spanish food loving folks to understand what your getting lol.

As a whole no, but people like you are Intolerant...... I think its amazing to see someone like yourself say "trying to act like we are the ones who are supposed to adapt to them" . When your hero's are the Founding Fathers who DID JUST THAT to the natives when coming to this land (then killed them and stole their land).

Continuing with what I said above, YOUR the one who wants people to adapt to YOU. Not vise versa. I never had someone who spoke another language tell me I should learn it or get out.
