I think the change in the piping(since the stock one was tapered0 did more for the HP the nthe actual cat removal. Turbo or not makes no real difference. I've done a ton a research on cats for different cars that I have owned, looked at, ect. My GTO isn't effected by cats or catless. Julie's HHR SS doesn't gain from going catless, but it does gain from better piping. WRX forum came to the same conslusions.

Not saying its a fact you won't gain anything, but 99.9% of the time you will make your car raspy and smell like **** for nothing.

because the LNF has a learndown feature, it really sucks, but the HHR SS & Cobalt SS/TC won't gain anything with bolt-ons on the STOCK tune.... but the GMS1 removes the learndown feature which allows the LNF to actually gain power when adding bolt-ons. i know this because i have one and have been around the Cobalts for a few years now. my current mods on my HHR SS is the GMS1, hot side charge pipe & catless downpipe.... i felt a good difference after adding the catless downpipe & charge pipe to the GMS1. with a custom HPT tune, the LNF really wakes up.

thats not 100% true, my downpipes are the exception, there has been documented gains from other aftermarket companies that use 2.5 in piping which is the exact same size as stock, after the cat taper. dyno's dont lie. but then again what do i know. dont mean to clog this thread with this debate, im just telling you my personal experiences with removing my cats, and getting dyno tuned after. i was in the same boat as you. i was skeptical of any real gains until the dyno sheet came out and shut me up for good! again speaking of FI and audi tuning which is different than gm and all the others, plus i have a custom tune just for no cats. good luck on the exhaust, i love vibrant stuff and if i were ever to go the custom route they would be my first choice. right now there is a 645 whp s4 running all vibant stuff so i believe they can flow enough for your application!!

So I struck out on 3 different places today trying to just get a quote on getting the axleback setup I want done. The first place no longer does exhaust work, second place told me their exhaust guy is out till the middle of next week, and the third only uses aluminized piping. I am looking to use 2 vibrant oval resonators as mufflers since they're a small bodied muffler it should aid in some more sound.

this is the type of look i'm going for.

sounds nice! as for removing cats i have removed the cats from 2 na cars both on after market exhaust and gained power both times...as for a fi car you will ALWAYS gain power by making the exhaust less restrictive

Removal of any cats is prohibited. A hefty fine is attached to any shop that does remove cats. That being said, there are places you can still go to get this done. Come meet me in person at hooters on the 7th or this thursday nights meet for info.
